How To Renew Your Youth Like the Eagle

Eagle flying over forest of trees

It was the year 1513.

Spanish explorer Ponce de Leon was in search of the legendary Fountain of Youth. Many others have made similar attempts since. Those who don’t have time to travel the world in search of the elusive fountain are hoping for a miracle drug or procedure to lengthen their lives and improve their health, while reducing the effects of aging.

While the world searches in vain, the true secret to longevity is easy to find. The address? Psalm 103:5. There, you’ll find the true Source of a long, healthy life, the One “who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s” (NKJV).

If you’re a believer in Jesus, you don’t have to slowly deteriorate in your mind and body, walking hunched over, suffering from age-related ailments, and living under the care of others. You don’t have to die young!

The Word of God has promised you long life, strength and health all your days. So, let’s do it. We’re here to help you learn how to renew your youth like the eagle, so you can live a long, strong and healthy life!

1. Focus On Your Spiritual DNA

“With long life I will satisfy him.” –Psalm 91:16 (NKJV)

Kenneth Copeland likes to say, “I plan to die young…at a very old age.” At 84 years old and showing no signs of slowing down, he’s well on his way!

But it wasn’t always that way.

When Kenneth was 69 years old, the devil started reminding him of something—his physical DNA. He reminded him that almost all his relatives had died in their 70s. Brother Copeland even started to see the signs and feel the symptoms of those genes.

“Physically, I was going downhill,” he says.

As he talked with the Lord about it, the Lord immediately said to him, You’re paying attention to your natural DNA. In My Word it says you’re born again not of corruptible seed, but by incorruptible seed (see 1 Peter 1:23). God continued and said, You’ve got My spiritual DNA. I’m your Father.

The minute Brother Copeland chose to focus on his spiritual DNA over his natural DNA, everything changed. He’ll tell you today that he’s stronger than he was 25 years ago. He has no intention of slowing down—he’s going for the 120-year promise!

Spiritually, he has the DNA to do it—so do you and so does every other born-again child of God!

As people of faith, we all have great spiritual genes. If you need evidence, just take a look at Abraham. He lived to be 175. According to Romans 4:11(KJV), he’s “the father of all them that believe.” So, longevity runs in our spiritual family.

It’s not the kind of longevity that just involves a lot of years, either. It’s not the kind that leaves you weak, worn-out and sitting in a nursing home. No, it’s the kind that comes from having your youth renewed.

Make a quality decision to lay claim to that heritage. Follow the example of Abraham and focus on your spiritual DNA, knowing that, because you have the same covenant of BLESSING, if you do what he did, you’ll get the same results.

2. Change the Way You Look At Death

“Moses was a hundred and twenty years old when he died, yet his eyes were not weak nor his strength gone.” –Deuteronomy 34:7 (NIV)

You don’t have to stop living at 70 or 80 years of age.

God never meant for us to die young. It’s His will for us to live out the full number of our days.

Traditionally, Psalm 90:10 has been quoted in regard to man’s life expectancy as 70 years, or if by reason of strength, 80. But what most people don’t realize is that this psalm is credited to Moses, who is interceding with God to remove the curse, which made it necessary for every Israelite over 20 years of age (when they rebelled against God at Kadesh-barnea) to die before reaching the Promised Land (Numbers 14:26-35). Moses says most of them are dying at 70 years of age. This number has often been mistaken as a set span of life for all mankind. It was not intended to refer to anyone except those Israelites under the curse during that particular 40 years. Seventy years never has been the average span of life for humanity.

Moses himself lived to be 120 years old. So don’t have the mindset that you should only live to be 70. What God actually said about man’s life span is found in Genesis 6:3: “And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.”

Think about it. That means at 60 you are just middle-aged! That’s not the time to start slowing down. Be determined to enjoy to the fullest the many productive years the Lord has promised you.

Watch Gloria Copeland teach you how to live long and healed.

3. Take Natural Steps, too

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own.” –1 Corinthians 6:19 (NIV)

Some people think, We’re not under the law anymore, so we can eat whatever we want.

Well, not if you want to live to 120 years!

We have to care for our spirit, soul and body to live long and strong. We can’t eat junk food and never exercise, and then think we can live long and strong. We are called to feed ourselves physical, mental and spiritual food to properly care for ourselves—spirit, soul and body.

Another area that cannot be dismissed if you want to enjoy long life is unforgiveness.

Forgiveness is a spiritual law. It is not optional, and it’s a key to long life. You can eat right and exercise, but if you’re not keeping the law of love, it will cut your life short. Unforgiveness is poison to the human spirit and even the human brain.

It has been scientifically proven that fear and unforgiveness damage the brain. The brain is the only physical organ that gets better with age, but it will decline if it’s being fed wrong—physically, intellectually and spiritually.

On top of that, fear and unforgiveness have been linked to countless diseases. So, eat right, exercise, obey God and walk in love. When you do, your youth will renew like the eagle’s.

4. Think and Speak Words of Life and Health

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” –Proverbs 18:21 (KJV)

Well, I am getting older, you know.

Have you said those words—about creaking joints, a sore back, forgetting things or not seeing as clearly?

If you want to renew your youth like the eagle’s, you first must renew your mind to the Word of God, and then think and speak words of life and health.

Every day, say, “My youth is renewed like the eagle’s. I am so healthy and strong. My blood pressure is perfect, my cholesterol is low, my thyroid functions perfectly, my eyesight and hearing get better every day, my memory is sharp,” and so on. Then, don’t let yourself speak otherwise throughout the day.

It’s time to be like Bartimaeus and throw off the garment that is trying to define you. Throw off the garment of aging, feeling and acting old. Throw it off! That isn’t you. The Healer is here. He said He’ll renew your youth like the eagle’s. You can be 95 years old, and see and hear as well as you ever have, walk as well as you ever have, take care of yourself and be independent just as you always have. Don’t accept anything else.

If you want to live, you have to choose life. To choose life, you choose God. To choose God, you have to choose His words and do things His way.

If you’ll renew your mind through meditating and speaking the Word, then your spiritual DNA will arrest your physical DNA. Your youth will be renewed!

You don’t have to search the world over to find a way to renew your youth—it’s available to you here and now! Youth renewal is included in THE BLESSING of Abraham, which is yours in Christ Jesus. Put your faith to work right now and say, “I receive the benefit of my youth being renewed today!”

Building a Place of Transformation for Families in Juárez, Mexico

Mexico flag flying

In this Q & A, discover how Sergio is building a place of transformation for families in Juarez.

“Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” –Matthew 25:40 (KJV)

Sergio Alvarado knows the streets of Juárez, Mexico. He was once a product of them, a young man without purpose or a sense of belonging.

He clearly remembers the feeling of hopelessness that overshadowed his childhood and the sense of loss he felt from the absence of his parents. His father was a drug addict; his mother, a young, single woman who turned to prostitution to care for her children only to lose her life to the streets—first to alcoholism and eventually to liver disease.

Once he became a Christian and came to America, Sergio thought he had left Juárez far behind in his rearview mirror. God had delivered him from his past life and given him a new one, complete with a heart for the Lord and a supportive wife. For more than 15 years, he has worked at KCM’s headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas.

Then one day, Sergio heard of a woman who was ministering to the children of Juárez. Suddenly, he was face-to-face with the Juárez he had left so many years before. The urge to visit those children who reminded him of himself at a young age wouldn’t leave him alone. It was the beginning of his journey back to his hometown—not only physically, but spiritually, too.

Sergio sensed God calling him to build a place of healing, transformation and hope for the children of Juárez and their families. Today, Centro de Fe Vida Abundante (Faith Center Abundant Life) is under construction. With the help of KCM’s Partners and Friends, Sergio’s ministry, Alvarado Ministries International (AMI), is in the process of building a church, and a center that includes a soup kitchen and educational areas in one of the poorest parts of Juárez. Once finished, the soup kitchen and its dining room will serve 160 people at a time while the church’s sanctuary will hold 300. The second floor of the main center will have rooms for Bible classes, services for kids, dormitories and more. The land surrounding the center will house educational workshops where young people will learn skills like woodworking, sewing and welding, which will allow them to provide for their own families in the future.

In March, KCM held the 2021 Juárez Victory Campaign onsite. Several Partner ministers attended, bringing the Word of God and provisions to the local people. Watch this video to see all that took place!

Sergio will tell you that building the center has not been an easy task. It’s been an uphill battle to overcome bureaucratic red tape, governmental oversite and financial need. Despite the obstacles, progress continues to be made because God is faithful. What He starts, He finishes. Glory to God!

We spoke with Sergio to hear an update on the project.

Q: What is the biggest need in Juárez?

A: There are a lot of single moms, some as young as 16-17 years old with more than one child. Ninety percent of them are illiterate because there’s no such thing as free school in Mexico. Although the government calls it free, it’s not. Students have to pay for books and other expenses. So, illiteracy is a huge issue because it affects job opportunities later on. Many of these moms start off working in manufacturing plants. The minimum wage in Juárez is about $8-9 a day, but the cost of living is extremely high. When the moms go to work, there’s often no one to take care of the kids, so they stay home by themselves. The moms eventually become overwhelmed. That’s when drug dealers and pimps prey on them, promising more money and fewer working hours. In the end, these women become hooked on alcohol or drugs. Then, the children are truly left on their own. It’s a vicious cycle that affects about 60-70% of the orphans in the area. By the time they’re 12 or 13, they’ve given up on life.

Q: How will Centro de Fe Vida Abundante address the physical needs of the people?

A: In the very beginning, I wanted to open an orphanage, but the red tape in Mexico is just incredible and so is the potential liability. It’s why most of the orphanages in Mexico are run by the government. So, we’ve adjusted our plans, and I believe it’s the direction the Lord wanted us to take. In addition to a church where they’ll hear and learn the Word of God, we’re going to feed anybody in the area who’s hungry. We’re going to teach young ladies and young men the ins and outs of marriage and how they can succeed in marriage, so there won’t be so many single families. We’ll also teach the people how to read and write. For those who are over 16 years old and don’t want to go to school, we’re going to create the jobs by founding two companies—one a clothing company, the other an ironworks company. We have welders, woodworkers and seamstresses ready to teach the students. We’ll also have a day care center, so moms can go to work and know that their kids are safe.

Q: You’ve said that this center will be “a place of transformation.” Can you explain that?

A: Transformation has to start from the inside. The spirit it has to be renewed in order for people to have the power to change, so we’re going to start with teaching them the Word of God. Initially, we’re going to open a satellite church with video teaching. I want it to be a buffet for the people, so they can receive the Word of God from different ministers and understand what God has for them. I want them to see the difference the Word makes in their lives, in their families and in their city.

Q: How can the Partners and Friends of KCM stand in faith with you?

A: The most important thing to pray for is protection because Juárez is considered one of the most dangerous cities in the world. The second is for the finances to come in, so we can finish the center. We’ve raised $150,000 of $350,000 so far. We especially need the kitchen finished. Right now, when I go, I take enough food for a family of four to eat twice a day for a whole month, so it will save a lot of money when we finish the kitchen. We’ll be able to feed them onsite. I’m also asking for wisdom and divine connections with governmental officials, so this process goes smoothly in the future.

Sergio admits that building Centro de Fe Vida Abundante is a huge undertaking that he never would have imagined he’d be a part of, but God had other plans.

“I really believe that God had us born in a place for a reason. It’s not a coincidence.” Sergio has shared those words many times with the children in Juárez, and his life certainly reflects them.

God took one of Juárez’s once lost children and brought him home decades later, saved and whole, to effect change in the lives of this generation. We stand with Sergio in faith believing for the completion of the center, and we are thanking God in advance for all the children whose lives and destinies will be transformed by this good work in Juárez!

The Most Attractive Quality in a Christian

A couple with arms around each other

What is the main quality that draws you to someone and causes you to want to spend time with him or her?

Most people would answer this: kindness.

People are drawn to kindness because it makes them feel loved, accepted, safe and welcome, which is a rare thing to find in this world. In fact, kindness is so powerful, it can soften angry hearts and even turn an enemy into a friend.

But where does kindness come from? In her latest book, Walking in the Fruit of the Spirit, Gloria Copeland shares about the fruit of kindness and how it comes from the fruit of goodness. The two are inseparable. You flow in kindness when you are operating in the goodness of God.

Kindness is the most attractive quality in a Christian and the main way to draw people to Christ—simply by living out His goodness and kindness in your everyday life. Before we look at some practical ways these fruit shine through in our lives, let’s take a moment to differentiate between the fruit of kindness and the fruit of goodness.

Kindness vs. Goodness

The fruit of kindness and the fruit of goodness are so closely connected, they’re best understood when examined together. Most Bible scholars agree they’re interdependent, and while kindness is mentioned first in Galatians 5:22, in studying and meditating on the Scriptures, it is clear that goodness is the foundation for kindness because the Bible describes goodness as a state of being. It says that God is Good. Goodness isn’t just something He has, it’s who He is.

Goodness is compassion, benevolence and generosity. Kindness flows through that state of being with action. God’s goodness within us is what causes us to be kind. Goodness produces kindness as its result.

With that in mind, let’s examine what kindness looks like in everyday life and why it is the most attractive quality in a Christian.

Kindness Is Seen in the Way You Talk To Others

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs.” –Ephesians 4:29 (NIV)

There was a time when people would never say the kinds of harsh and critical things that are now commonplace on TV, movies and social media. Even unbelievers knew it was indecent, at best, to outright curse people in authority and speak of them openly in hateful ways.

Sadly, these days, even ordinary people who are just living their lives and doing the best they know how to do are criticized and ridiculed in very public ways.

That’s why kindness is a very attractive quality in a person. It will draw people to you like a magnet. When you are kind in the way you speak to people, you’re giving them a taste of the goodness of God. You’re showing them who He is and that His heart toward them is good, loving and safe.

One of the primary ways kindness manifests is in the way we talk to others. This includes the way we speak to friends, family, co-workers, store clerks, pastors, strangers on social media and especially to those who are unkind to us (when the average Joe will just strike back).

Knowing that you attract people to God when you show the fruit of kindness in the way you talk to others, ask yourself this: Can people count on you to be positive and encouraging when they talk to you? Or do they expect negativity and words of criticism?

We all have to work at being kind, but ultimately, we are all held responsible for every word we speak (Matthew 12:36). Here’s a quick self-check to see the condition of the fruit of kindness on your tree:

  • Are you respectful, loving and encouraging to your spouse, or are you always pointing out their faults?
  • Do you discipline your children with love and encouragement, or are you harsh and critical?
  • Do you respect your grown children, or do you pout or make them feel guilty if they don’t do what you want them to?
  • Are you a kind and encouraging in-law?
  • If you’re a boss or leader, do you lead by building relationships and expressing appreciation to your team, or do you lead by intimidation and threats?
  • Here’s the biggest test of all: If asked, would every person in your life describe you as kind?

These questions certainly aren’t meant to condemn any of us. We all need work! And without doing a self-check in certain areas, we won’t be able to grow, mature and develop into the kind of people who are pleasing to God, attracting unbelievers to Him, and living a blessed life!

Now, more than ever, this world needs the softening influence Christians have to offer. People need to see what the love of God looks like and how it can change their lives. They need for us to be kind when most of the world is harsh.

Bottom line? We, as Christians, should always strive to talk to others in a way that builds them up and encourages them, not criticizes or tears down.

Kindness Is Seen in the Way You Treat Others

“A kindhearted woman gains respect…. [and] a kind man benefits himself.” –Proverbs 11:16-17 (NIV-84)

Think for a moment…who is the kindest person you know?

Now, what made you think of this particular person?

Most likely, this person shows a loving spirit through acts of kindness on a consistent basis. That’s exactly what the Church is supposed to be doing with the love of God today. We should be walking in love and blessing people at every opportunity. We should be doing good and making it easier for people to know that God is Good and He is Love.

It’s hard for people to have confidence in God when they see Christians behaving rudely or selfishly. They look at us and think, If that’s Christianity, I’m not interested. When we’re kind and helpful, on the other hand, it is a witness of Christ’s love—a light shining in a dark world. It is kindness that attracts people to us and to Jesus who is inside us.

Kindness isn’t an invitation to church or letting people know how they ought to be living. It is God’s love expressed through the goodness and kindness of His people that attracts them to Jesus.

When unbelievers see us being tender and benevolent, they realize there’s something different about us, and they’re likely to be interested when we tell them about the Lord. Romans 2:4 says the goodness, and in some translations “the kindness,” of God leads men to turn away from sin and toward Him.

So, let’s get practical. What are some of the ways we can show kindness to others?

  • Pay attention to the feelings and needs of those around us, then try to meet those needs.
  • Look for ways to encourage and lift others up.
  • Lend a helping hand even when it isn’t requested.
  • Compliment people authentically.
  • Be patient and polite in every situation.
  • Show consideration for others’ time and resources.
  • Refrain from gossip, judgment and anger.

That’s what Jesus did during His time on the earth. He blessed people by meeting their needs—feeding them, healing them and encouraging them. Then, He was able to share the gospel with them, and those who were willing to hear were also primed to receive.

The most attractive quality a Christian can have is kindness. As you move into the coming weeks, take some time to develop the fruit of goodness and kindness in your life. Pray and ask God to help you in this area. Read and study the scriptures, meditate on them, and declare them over your life. Clothe yourself with kindness (Colossians 3:12). Then, practice, practice, practice. Your kindness and goodness might be the reason many will enter into the kingdom of God!

How the Truth Sets You Free

Ground-view of a crane flying above

How the Truth Sets You Free
By Kenneth Copeland

All over the world right now freedom is under attack.

The United States and nations standing with her against the forces of terror are continually on alert. They are constantly threatened with violence by those who hate their liberty. They are under assault by hidden foes intent on using all the devilish ingenuity they can muster to bind free nations everywhere and imprison them behind invisible bars of fear.

You know all that as well as I do. But do you know that your personal freedom is under that same kind of vicious attack?

Do you know the devil is working night and day to rob you of your liberty in Jesus? Do you know he is continually assaulting you with threats and lies meant to rob you of God’s blessings and put you back in bondage to the evils from which you, as a born-again child of God, have already been freed?

If you don’t, it’s time you found out. It’s time you got wise to the devil’s schemes and launched your own “Operation Freedom” on the battlefield of life.

How? By employing the one weapon that Jesus said would guarantee your freedom—the truth.

What Worked for Jesus Will Work for You

“The truth?” you may ask. “That’s all I need to be liberated from the bondages of the devil?”

Absolutely. Jesus Himself said so. In John 8, we find Him speaking to a group of new believers. Just moments before, they had put their faith in Him. No doubt they were just like you and me when we first believed on Him—full of enthusiasm and eager to be like the Lord.

They were probably looking at Him thinking, Wow, this Man isn’t in bondage to anything! He casts out devils. He heals sickness and disease. He isn’t held captive by sin like we’ve been. I want to be His disciple! I want to be like Him!

But there was one big problem. They didn’t have the first idea of how to go about it.

So at that moment, Jesus gave them the information they needed. He gave them the key that would unlock every door for them. He said: “If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:31-32).

Have you ever read those verses and wondered how Jesus knew the truth would make those people free?

He knew it because He had proven it in His own life. He had always lived in accordance with the truth of God’s Word. Just a few verses earlier He had explained and said, “I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things..The Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him” (verses 28-29).

Most Christians don’t realize that Jesus had to live by faith and obedience to God’s Word just like we do. They make the mistake of thinking that He was able to live free from all the bondages and hindrances of the devil when He walked this earth because He was the Son of God. “Jesus couldn’t have sinned” they say. “He couldn’t have been sick. He couldn’t have been afraid. After all, He was divine. He was God!”

Yes, He was (and is) God.but He also was (and is) man. He could have sinned. Thank God He didn’t, but He could have. We know that because the Bible says He “was in all points tempted like as we are” (Hebrews 4:15).

Even though Jesus is God, when He came to earth He laid down the rights, privileges and power that belonged to Him as God and lived as a man. As Philippians 2 says, He “stripped Himself [of all privileges and rightful dignity].in that He became like men and was born a human being” (verse 7, The Amplified Bible).

What made and kept Jesus free, what held Him up and made Him strong was not His divine willpower. It wasn’t even the fact that Almighty God was His Father. What made Him free was the fact that He walked on the Word of God!

He said what His Father said. He did what His Father told Him to do. He lived on the Father’s Word continually, night and day, and that Word kept Him free.

So when those new believers needed to know how they could be His disciples, since a disciple is “one who is like his teacher,” Jesus told them to do the same thing He had been doing.

He said, “Keep on listening to Me like I listen to My Father. I’ll keep on giving you His words, then you’ll know the truth and that truth will make you just as free as I am!”

Heavenly Freedom Here on Earth

Think about that for a moment and let the reality of it hit you.

The Word of God is the Word of freedom! Continuing in that truth is what made Jesus free.and continuing in that truth is what will make you free.

Actually you are already free. You stepped into that freedom the minute you were born again. The instant you believed the truth about Jesus and acted on it by receiving Him as your Lord and Savior, freedom was imparted into your spirit. God Himself made you a new creation. He made you righteous with His own righteousness. He wiped out your sinful past and gave you His own nature. He delivered you out of the kingdom of darkness, into the kingdom of the light of His Son. He set you free—freer than you ever dreamed you could be! (See Romans 8:2.)

Most Christians haven’t even begun to comprehend the kind of freedom they’ve been given in Jesus. Some will never experience it until they get to heaven. But we don’t have to wait until then to enjoy it. If we’ll continue in the Word, we can live in heavenly freedom right here on earth.

“Well, Brother Copeland, I have sickness in my body and I don’t know what to do about it.”

Go to the Word of God and get the truth about it and it will make you free.

“I’m bound by bad habits and no matter how hard I try, I can’t seem to kick them.”

Go to the Word of God and get the truth about it. Then continue in that truth and it will make you free.

“But I have real problems! I’ve been to doctors, psychologists and psychiatrists. I’ve been counseled by highly trained therapists and even they haven’t been able to help me.”

Then they’re not telling you the truth. All the medicine, psychology and psychiatrics in the world piled into one place cannot do what the Word of God can and will do in your life. The experts in those fields may tell you a lot of natural facts. They may give you a lot of information about your circumstances. They may even be able to provide some temporary help or relief.

But Jesus said it’s the Word of God that’s the truth (John 17:17). So if they’re not giving you the Word, they cannot make you free.

Don’t Buy the Lies

Am I saying you should deny or ignore the natural facts and circumstances of life? Not at all. I’m saying if you want to be free, you must face them squarely and change them by faith in the Word of God.

You see, facts are neither truths nor lies. They are simply temporary conditions. Truth is what God says about those conditions. Lies are what the devil says about them.

If continuing in the truth of what God says about natural conditions and circumstances will make you free, then continuing in the lies the devil tells you about them will keep you bound, won’t it?

Certainly it will. That’s why the devil lies 24 hours a day, seven days a week. No wonder Jesus called the devil the father of lies! (John 8:44)

Lies are the weapons of terror the devil uses to threaten and intimidate you. They’re the prison bars he uses to lock you up in sin, sickness, sorrow and lack—the very things from which Jesus has set you free!

When sickness attacks us, the devil lies to us and says, You might as well just go to bed. You’re not going to get healed this time. This sickness is just your cross to bear…God wants to use it to teach you something.

When we encounter financial needs, the devil lies and says, The money you need isn’t going to come in time. You’re never going to find a better job. You’ve always been poor and you’ll always be poor. But that’s OK, poverty is just God’s way of keeping you humble.

When we’re in trouble and need deliverance, the devil lies to us and says, God won’t help you out of this situation. After all, it’s your own fault. He’s just going to leave you in it to teach you a lesson.

The devil will go on and on telling us junk like that. But the truth of God’s Word proves it’s all a deception. It tells us plainly that Jesus didn’t come to leave us sick, poor and sad. He said: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord” (Luke 4:18-19).

That’s what Jesus was doing during His earthly ministry and since He is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8) that’s what He is doing today!

Watch Kenneth Copeland and professor Greg Stephens share why God’s Word is all the truth you’ll ever need.

Tell the Truth About It

One person who truly grasped this revelation was my mother. She was a true prayer warrior who loved God and was just plain brutal toward the devil. People knew that when she ministered to them, she would tell them the truth and it would make them free. So when she had a Monday night prayer group at her house, people just flocked to it.

One evening, I was coming up her front walk after one of those Bible studies and I overheard a couple of Baptist preachers talking as they came out the front door. One of them turned to the other and said, “In all the years I’ve been in ministry, I’ve never had much sympathy for the devil,” he said. “But after that woman got through with him, I kind of felt sorry for him, didn’t you?”

I always laugh when I think of it because that’s just the way my mother was. She was rough on the devil.

I remember one man she prayed for who probably thought (at least for a few minutes) she was pretty rough on people too. He was a young pastor named Jimmy Hester and when he first started coming to my mother’s Bible study, he was concerned about his health. Although he was a young man, most of the men in his family including his father and grandfather had died young of heart disease and Jimmy was already showing signs of it.

After the Bible study, Jimmy went to my mother for prayer and began to tell her the problem. “My grandfather died of heart trouble. My father died of heart trouble,” he said. “Now I have high blood pressure and heart trouble myself.”

“I thought you said you were a preacher!” exclaimed my mother.

“I am,” said Jimmy.

“Then tell me the truth about that,” she demanded.

“I just told you the truth. My grandfather died of heart trouble. My father died of heart trouble. Now I have high blood pressure and heart trouble myself.”

What Does the Bible Say?

At that point, my mother literally boxed his ears! She grabbed them with both hands and began shaking his head from side to side.

“Tell me the truth about it!” she said.

“I told you the truth about it!” he answered in exasperation.

“Do you have any idea what Isaiah 53 says? Do you have any idea what I Peter 2:24 says?” she asked (all the while still shaking his head by the ears). “They say that by Jesus’ stripes you were healed!”

Jimmy stood there, stunned, as the revelation hit him. Later he said to me, “People had told me I wasn’t going to live very long. My doctors had given me bad reports. But your mother got through to me with the truth and suddenly I realized I had been believing the lies of the devil. It hit me so hard, I just walked out in a daze.

“Kenneth, your mother saw the spirit of death on me. She knew she had to change my thinking quickly or I was going to die.”

Once Jimmy got hold of that truth he didn’t let it go. He started attending my mother’s Bible study regularly and growing in faith. His blood pressure began to settle down. His health began to improve. Why? Because he continued in the truth and that truth made him free.

I talked to him years later on his 60th birthday. He’d just had a physical and his doctor had told him he was in perfect health with the heart of a 16-year-old. The last I heard, Jimmy was still out preaching the gospel all over the world.

It’s Your Choice

That’s a good story, isn’t it? It’s an inspiring story. But it’s Jimmy Hester’s story. The question is, what’s your story going to be?

Now that you know your freedom is under attack, now that you know the thief has come to steal, kill and destroy the abundant life Jesus has given you, what are you going to do?

It’s your choice. You can believe the lies of the devil, take the facts at face value and end up imprisoned in sin, sickness, sorrow and lack. Or you can dig into the Word of God, build your faith, take a stand on the truth and launch your own “Operation Freedom.”

You can keep your ear tuned to the words of the Master and live just like He did. You can conquer sin, cast out devils, heal the sick and have every need met according to God’s riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Sure, there will be battles along the way. There will be challenges to face and overcome. But if you continue in God’s Word (the Perfect Law of Liberty), you will end up being a real disciple of Jesus because you will know the truth and the truth will make you free!

Phase 1 Update: Repair, Replace and Expand

Wooden shed wall with shelves of carpenter tools

Phase 1 of the Repair, Replace, Expand initiative is well underway! After the significant damage caused to our campus by the February 2021 winter storms, the Lord spoke clearly to us that we are now standing at the “Golden Gate Bridge” of opportunity to not only repair and replace, but to expand for the future. (To learn more, see CEO Pastor George Pearson’s previous update HERE.)

Want to sow your seed into Repair, Replace and Expand?

During Phase 1, we are getting our power plant back online, as well as making needed repairs to our buildings, replacing equipment and so much more. Following the Lord’s direction, we are not replacing things back to where they were; rather, we are upgrading with newer models and better functionality.

We have experienced God’s abundant favor and provision every step of the way!
Here are a couple testimonies of what has happened so far:

  • We were able to purchase more than 300 state-of-the-art, latest-model cubicles at a 65% discount to replace the ones we’ve had for 35 years. We even got to choose our own fabric!
  • We set a goal to purchase two power plant generators in Phase 1 and one additional generator in Phase 2. While working with the manufacturing company, the prices dropped. The company offered to drastically reduce the price even further if we purchased the third generator at the same time which saved at least $100,000.

We are rejoicing over miraculous things taking place!

Our main goals for Phase 1:

  • All buildings fully operational
  • Headquarters remodeled and furnished
  • Landscaping replanted
  • New power plant online
  • Make campuswide upgrades

Our Phase 1 budget to accomplish these goals was $6 million. We are overjoyed to report that God has already provided over $8.4 million through the generous donations of our Partners and Friends who have chosen to sow into this initiative. Glory to God!

Because of your giving, we are getting the job done! And why are we doing this? So we can fulfill the mission and vision for Kenneth Copeland Ministries and Eagle Mountain International Church—to take believers from the milk of the Word to the meat, teach them an uncommon faith so they can stand victoriously in life, and get the uncompromised Word of Faith on every available voice. To accomplish this, we must have a fully functional, updated facility.

And this is only the beginning! The expand part of our initiative, most of which will be coming in Phase 2, is important, as that will enable us to accomplish our mission in more and new ways. Expanding will position us for the good works the Lord has called us to and has already prepared for us to accomplish in the future. We are excited for what is to come!

We are standing in faith for the same things for you— that He will equip and position YOU for the good works He has called YOU to.

When our maintenance manager was initially surveying the damaged buildings and broken equipment everywhere, the Lord told him to continually confess, “It’s not as bad as it looks!” Almost immediately, we saw the hand of the Lord begin to turn things around.

Wherever you see discouraging situations, that same word belongs to you. We’re Partners! Declare it just as we are, “It’s not as bad as it looks!”

Then, thank the Lord for all He is doing, and praise Him for what He is about to do through this ministry and in your life to repair, replace and expand.

Always remember, God loves you, we love you, and…JESUS IS LORD!

7 Ways To Live in the Goodness of God

Quail sitting on top of a wooden cross

God is a good God.

It seems simple, obvious and we know it’s scriptural.

God is the giver of every good and perfect gift (James 1:17).

God takes pleasure in your whole-life prosperity (Psalm 35:27).

Jesus came that you might have life abundantly (not lacking, not sick, not broke, not lonely) (John 10:10).

We could list dozens more verses with the same message (find 65 Verses About the Goodness of God HERE)—God is good—and He wants to pour out His goodness on you and give you the best life imaginable.

So why don’t His people believe it?

No matter how much you love God, you may be limiting what He can do in your life by believing—maybe even somewhere deep down—that His goodness doesn’t apply to you, at least not in every situation. You can change that!

Here, we’re helping you discover 7 Ways To Live in the Goodness of God today and every day for the rest of your life.

1. See God as 100% Good

“Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good.” –1 Chronicles 16:34 (ESV)

God isn’t just mostly good or sometimes good and sometimes not. God is 100% good. It’s who He is—He can’t help but be good all the time. Even in His severity and just judgment (Romans 11:22), He is good.

But to keep believers from expecting and receiving the goodness God desires to bestow on them, the devil has worked overtime to convince most people that God is behind all the calamities that take place on this earth. They mistakenly think He’s causing them problems, making them sick, and sending trouble their way. Many people have even been religiously taught that God does those things to punish them or to teach them something.

To live in the goodness of God, you’ve got to push past every religious tradition you’ve heard against it, defy your own doubts, and see God as 100% good.

Find A Prayer to Receive Revelation of the Goodness of God HERE.

2. Understand His Goodness Is a Promise

“You will be blessed.” –Deuteronomy 28:3 (AMP)

It might be difficult to see God as good all the time because people change their moods from one day to the next. People can be kind and good to you one day, then mean the next.

God is not a man that He can lie, and He is not a man that He can be anything but good. But there’s more…

We have a covenant with Him (learn more HERE) and that covenant is an unbreakable promise to bestow every part of THE BLESSING on us when we obey Him. When you understand that His goodness is a promise, you won’t question it ever again.

3. Become an Ambassador of His Goodness

“Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ.” –2 Corinthians 5:20 (ESV)

Of course, God has never intended for us to keep all His goodness to ourselves! We are called to go into all the world, shine the light that is within us, and be a witness of the goodness of God. That’s why, when Jesus walked the earth, He was Anointed to do good.

So, as we receive His BLESSINGS in every area of our lives—spirit, soul, body, financially and socially—we are to share those BLESSINGS with others. That’s part of living in the goodness of God. And if you’ve ever had the amazing blessing of sharing His goodness with others, you know it probably blesses you more than it does them!

Jesus told us that those who believe in Him will do the same miraculous works He did, and even greater works! We are called to go about doing good and healing all who are oppressed of the devil.

God is ready and able to do those things through us. He just needs us to stop being so caught up in the natural things of this life and start paying more attention to His leadings. He needs for us to become ambassadors of His goodness. The more we do that, the more people will see God’s goodness through us and come running to Him!

4. Expect His Goodness to Manifest

“I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.” –Psalm 27:13 (NIV)

Here’s where it gets real.

If you believe that everyone gets sick to die or that God could put some disease on you at any moment to teach you something, you’re not expecting His goodness to manifest. You’re expecting the devil!

And by the way, God doesn’t use sickness to teach people, just as you wouldn’t make your own kid sick to teach him something. He uses His Word! He also uses His still, small voice and the Holy Spirit.

Watch Jerry Savelle teach you how to experience the goodness of God.

If you need money to pay the bills and you’re up all night panicking, stressing, crying…why? How would you feel if your children—under your care in your home where you’ve always fed them, clothed them and blessed them—panicked whenever they had a need? But kids don’t usually do that, do they? They EXPECT you to care for them. They treat you like they can count on you because you have a reputation of being good to them.

Well, God has a reputation, too, and it’s far better than any of ours. Expect His goodness to manifest in your life—EVERY part of your life. Blessings and miracles don’t come without faith—that’s simple spiritual law. So, you’ve got to get your faith up to the boiling point until it overflows. That’s how you will begin to live in the goodness of God.

5. Call On His Goodness

“I will call upon the LORD.” –Psalm 18:3 (KJV)

When you’re expecting the goodness of God to manifest, you’ll actively call on His goodness. That means, when a need arises, you aren’t looking for answers everywhere but Him first—no—you run to the throne, and you call on His goodness.

What are you calling on?

His promises. Those promises we talked about that are included in THE BLESSING. So if you need protection, you’re calling on His goodness that promises you protection. (Find out how to build a Psalm 91 house HERE.) You’re reminding Him of His Word because He loves that, and He responds to it (Isaiah 43:26, 55:11).

If you need healing, you remind Him (and yourself) of His promises for healing. And the same thing for finances. Whatever you need in your life, there’s a promise that covers it—go find it!

Living in the goodness of God means calling on His goodness and doing so knowing you’ll see it manifest in your life.

6. Step Out of the Way

“Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead. You’re not in the driver’s seat; I am.”—Mark 8:34-35 (MSG)

The goodness of God is the great overcomer of the curse. The curse is anything that causes darkness in our lives—sickness, disease, poverty, lack, depression, addiction, strife, loneliness or anything else like them. The goodness of God—or THE BLESSING—is a light, and once a light is switched on, all darkness disappears instantly. That’s what you can expect in your life.

But…as long as you’re in fear, doubt, worry or unbelief, you’re in the way. A lack of faith will keep the switch from being turned on and THE BLESSING of God from permeating your situation.

Faith in His goodness makes way for healing in your body, mind and emotions. It clears the path of every hindrance or delay.

7. Have Peace in the Goodness of God

“And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” –Philippians 4:7 (NKJV)

The goodness of God doesn’t always fall in your lap at the exact moment you would like. It’s always there and it is always operating in your life, but sometimes, when God is working some things out in you, you won’t see a manifestation right away. When you’ve “arrived” at a place of peace (which is also patient), you’ll know your manifestation is close at hand. You’ll have peace in the goodness of God, and you’ll never be shaken.

Now that you know these seven ways to live in the goodness of God, take them and run with them! Don’t hesitate. Why waste another minute of your life staying in the same place? Every good and perfect gift comes from Him and is yours!

How To Activate the Power of United Prayer in the Local Church

Crowd of people lifting hands and heads in worship

When you stand praying with your congregation in church, you may not think much of it. But did you know that corporate prayer has the power to change circumstances in your city, your nation and your personal life?

The word of the Lord through Brother Copeland is that 2021 is the Year of the Local Church, and it’s no coincidence that we need the power of the local church now more than ever! We, as the Church, are being called to rise up and be the Church in the world. One of the biggest impacts we can make is through the power of united prayer.

Corporate prayer was something Jesus emphasized, as we see in Luke 11. When He taught His disciples to pray, He taught them to pray corporately, saying, “Our Father….” That’s because there are things you cannot achieve any other way but through corporate prayer.

But make no mistake, united prayer is far more than just a group of people praying at the same time. When you come before the Most High, it should change you, and it should change your circumstances. He is the Great Changer. That comes from a place of expectation that if two or three are gathered, the great I AM will be in the midst of us.

Sadly, most of the time united prayer in the church is approached with so much error, it becomes powerless because it is done out of habit rather than the leading of the Holy Spirit. When you’re simply reciting a prayer, it isn’t really praying, it is just parroting something. It becomes a religious tradition rather than a sincere seeking of God.

But we can change that! Here, we’re showing you how to active the power of united prayer in the local church, so you can be part of the great move of God that is happening now!

1. Be of One Accord for United Prayer

“They raised their voice to God with one accord.”—Acts 4:24 (NKJV)

When a church congregation comes together in prayer, it is important to take the time to prepare what you’re going to pray before God—to be in one accord. To activate the power of united prayer, a local body must be in agreement. It is a prayer that Jesus Himself guaranteed would bring results every time (Matthew 18:19).

While getting two or three gathered into agreement may be simple, it is difficult to get thousands of people to pray in one accord if there is not a well-planned direction for the prayer of petition.

How does a leader of corporate prayer prepare to rally a large group in one accord?

  • Determine in advance what you are seeking from God—don’t just pray without any direction or purpose!
  • Plan to pray the answer, not the problem. Too many churches pray the problem, and what ends up happening is if they pray for the sick, they talk more about sickness than about the goodness of God, which is not effective.
  • Choose the scriptures on which you will stand, and prepare to lay them before the Lord.

The power of united prayer in the local church will be activated when you take the time to prepare the hearts of the congregation to pray in one accord. Praying at the same time simply isn’t enough!

Watch Gloria Copeland and Pastor George Pearsons discuss the power of the prayer of agreement.

2. Praise God During United Prayer

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” –Philippians 4:6 (NKJV)

Another important element of united prayer in the local church is praise and worship. Praise is an essential part of prayer, not only because it is mandated in God’s Word, but because it is the weaponry God has given us to bring down the mental strongholds of fear, doubt, unbelief and every other wrong spirit. When we flood our thinking with the power of praise, we give faith an opportunity to grow and operate effectively—we activate the power of our united prayers.

Of the power of praise and thanksgiving in prayer, Bill Johnson said, “One of the most important teachings I have ever received…suggested that if we only have 10 minutes to pray, we should spend about eight praising God.”

When you come together as a local church in united prayer, praise and worship is a critical element—praising God in one accord in a prayer of agreement will bring heaven to earth. It will open the hearts of the people to the goodness of God and create a spirit of expectancy for miracles. It will activate power.

Psalm 63:4 says, “I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer.” When we lift our hands in worship, praising God in the Name of Jesus, it is really difficult to stay in a state of worry. The united prayer of praise and thanksgiving opens the door to the impossible in any situation.

3. Intercede During United Prayer

“Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men.” —1 Timothy 2:1 (NKJV)

Intercession will always activate power during united prayer because it comes from a place of OBEDIENCE. We are called “first of all” to pray for all men. That’s a command, not just an idea of what to pray about.

When an entire congregation comes together in one accord in intercession, things are going to change. Praying words of faith in petition and supplication causes God to move in response.

Let’s make one thing clear: Intercession is not begging God. United prayer as a local church is a mighty army going forth to drive out darkness, so the Word of God can penetrate with signs, wonders and miracles. United intercessory prayer is the local church taking its place of authority and operating boldly from that God-given position.

Who are we, as the local church, to intercede for?

  1. Intercede for your city. Joshua 1:3 says, “Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you” (ESV). That means, not only does the local church have the right to take authority in its city, but it also has the responsibility to do so. You can bring heaven to earth in your city through united prayer in the local church. Whatever your city needs, you are the light that can drive out the darkness and usher in God’s presence.

  2. Intercede for your enemies. This one is tough, but we must! Matthew 5:44 (ESV) says, “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” And let’s not forget our verse for this section, 1 Timothy 2:1, which tells us to intercede for all men. That means…all men—the good and the bad. How do you do this? Begin by thanking God that He died for the ungodly. Pray that they’ll come to know Him, and be delivered and set free from darkness.

  3. Intercede for your pastor. Pastoring is a tough job, and while many make demands of a pastor, not many hold him up in prayer. The devil is after our pastors, and we, united in prayer as the local church, can hold them up and stand for their deliverance from wicked and unreasonable men. Pray that God will fill your pastor’s mouth and that he will speak boldly with utterance in the Holy Ghost. Pray that he won’t try to please man, but God alone. Pray that he won’t back down from the truth even when he faces opposition.

For more prayer ideas, see 7 Points of Intercession To Pray as a Church.

There is power when you activate united prayer at the local church! Coming together in one accord to petition, praise and intercede before the Lord has ushered in powerful results and even revival. This is the Year of the Local Church—let’s rise up as the army of God with one accord and pray in a mighty move of God in the earth!

Watch Kenneth Copeland with Dr. Don and Mary Colbert discuss the kind of prayer that leads to triumph!

5 Myths About Patience You Can’t Afford To Believe

child fishing at the edge of water

There’s something you need to know.

There are some myths floating around, and believing them—even secretly—is costing you.

There are a lot of ideas about patience in the world, and in Christian circles—some are true, some are not. So, it’s time to do some debunking because patience is a fruit of the spirit that makes every other fruit work because it causes you to not give up or quit, even when you’re under pressure.

In her latest book, Walking in the Fruit of the Spirit, Gloria Copeland shares about the fruit of patience and how it will take your faith to the finish line in every situation. Bible patience will go after a promise, dream, desire or blessing for as long as it takes. It will keep you standing and believing the Word of God until the full manifestation comes. So, you can’t afford to buy the lies anymore. It costs too much!

Patience is something we could all use more of. That’s why we’re debunking 5 Myths About Patience You Can’t Afford To Believe if you want to live a life of victory.

Myth No. 1: Patience Is Passive

“Let patience have its perfect work.” –James 1:4 (NKJV)

Most people think of patience as sitting and watching the world pass you by without taking any action. Waiting. And waiting.

But that isn’t true of Bible patience at all.

Bible patience is not passive. It is active and assertive. It is strength concentrated and released with precision and intention. Patience is power.

That would certainly explain why the devil provides ample opportunity for us to step out of patience every day. He wants to make sure we don’t have the power we need to have fully activated faith. That’s why you can’t afford to believe that patience is passive.

Think about how impatience makes you feel—frustrated and helpless. That certainly isn’t a position of power! But Bible patience is a decision to stand firm. It’s a choice to persevere with active faith—believing, speaking and acting on God’s Word. The stand of faith is not for wimps! And it is not inactive or passive in any way.

When God calls you to be patient, make no mistake; He is calling you to an active position of spiritual battle.

Myth No. 2: Patience Is a Personality Trait

“Ye have need of patience.” –Hebrews 10:36 (KJV)

“I’m just not a patient person.”

Have you ever heard anyone say that? Here’s the problem. Patience is not a personality trait. It is a developed quality—a cultivated fruit of the spirit.

God says we have need of patience. He also says that love is patient, and to love your neighbor as yourself is the second greatest commandment. That means it isn’t optional and everyone can obtain it. When you were born again, all the fruit of the spirit was placed right there inside you. But you have to make a decision to develop and yield to it. You can’t afford to do otherwise.

Your will is the gateway to your spirit. Whatever your will decides, that’s the way things are going to be. You can use your will either to shut off the outflow of patience within you, or to release it and let it have its perfect work. The choice is up to you.

Watch as Gloria Copeland teaches you why faith with patience wins.

Myth No. 3: Patience Is Too Difficult To Develop

“Endurance develops strength of character.” –Romans 5:4

For the average unbelieving person, patience is difficult to develop. But since we know we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us, nothing is too hard for Him. He has commanded us to love and to be patient, and He never commands us to do something that is too difficult to achieve—that is, with the help of the Holy Spirit.

If you agree with the myth that the fruit of patience is too difficult to develop, you’ve already lost. But if you overcome the myth and determine to develop this powerful force in your life, nothing will be impossible for you. That’s why you can’t afford to give up on patience.

But the question remains: how?

Gloria Copeland suggests these ways to develop patience:

  • Pray in the spirit. This edifies you and builds up your spirit, enabling you to better operate by the Holy Spirit.

  • Practice. Take advantage of every opportunity to practice patience. In line at the store, on the road, with your spouse and children. The more you practice, the more natural it will become.

If you keep working at patience, one day you’ll surprise yourself and find that the fruit of patience has grown into a tall and strong force in your life!

Myth No. 4: Lack of Patience Isn’t a Deal Breaker

“Fight the good fight of faith.” –1 Timothy 6:12 (NIV)

Some Christians shrug off the idea of perfecting patience in their lives as if it were some sort of pipe dream. But patience is more than just a nice idea—the lack of it is a deal breaker in the spirit realm.

That’s because faith doesn’t work without patience. It’s the difference between success and failure.

You don’t generally get miracles by just having faith for a few minutes and then caving in. You may have to stand steadfast over time in the face of seeming impossibilities. That takes patience!

You can’t have a lot of faith, but not have much fight. You need faith that’s aggressive—faith that teams up with patience to pack a one-two punch that puts the devil on the run and brings the impossible to pass!

Make no mistake, you can’t have the desires of your heart without faith, and you can’t have faith without patience. You see, faith opens the door to God’s promise for you, and patience keeps it open until that promise is fulfilled.

Do you have your faith sights set on a promise of God today, a promise you’ve been waiting on for some time? Don’t let the delay discourage you. Put patience to work. The Word guarantees you will receive your reward.

Like every other fruit of the spirit, we have to practice patience to see it fully develop in our lives. Watch as Gloria Copeland explains more.

Myth No. 5: Patience Will Delay the Result

“And so, having patiently waited, he received the promise.” –Hebrews 6:15 (NASB)

This verse tells us that Abraham received his promise as a result of…wait for it…patience. Hebrews 6:12 (NKJV) tells us to be like those who have gone before us who “through faith and patience inherit the promises.” Notice it wasn’t just by faith alone. Patience brought it home.

That means the idea that patience will delay the result is a myth. Patience will expedite your result. That’s a bit counterintuitive for most of us, but it remains true. That’s because patience is an indicator of where your faith is on the spiritual gauge. The higher your patience, the stronger your faith. Strong faith says, “I’m not moving. I don’t care what it looks like. I’m getting my promise! I’m not moved by what I see and feel. I’m not moved by the passage of another day. I’ll see my promise!”

Of the expediting power of patience, Kenneth Copeland says, “When you’re willing to stand in faith forever, you won’t be there very long.”

On the other hand, if you have let circumstances throw you off course, you got out of the vehicle driving your faith—you got out of patience. The problem is, when you get out of your vehicle, you aren’t moving forward anymore.

The power of patience is a working power. When faith has a tendency to waver, it is patience that comes to faith’s aid to make it stand. The power of patience is necessary to keep faith strong and moving forward.

Now that you know the truth about the fruit of patience, it’s time to stop believing these five myths! Make a life of patience your goal. When you do, get ready for breakthrough!

Watch Kenneth Copeland teach you how faith, with patience, receives the promise.

10 Steps to Debt Freedom

man exiting a iron gate into a courtyard

If one of your goals this year is to get out of debt, here’s something you need to know: God’s will for you is financial freedom. When you put your feet to your faith, you WILL see results! To help you get started, we’ve put together 10 steps to debt freedom guaranteed to bring you closer to debt freedom and financial abundance in your life.

1. Make a Plan

“Write the vision and make it plain.” –Habakkuk 2:2 (NKJV)

When you want to accomplish anything in your life, the Bible is clear—the place to start is writing it down! Getting out of debt isn’t something that will just happen. It starts when you make a decision to be debt free, then make a plan to achieve it. Here’s how to start:

  • Write down a statement in your journal that says something like this: “I am debt free. I owe no man anything but to love.” By making this positive affirmation, you are already setting things in motion in your mind and spirit.
  • Every day pray over your vision and your plan. Thank God that it is done, and praise Him for the freedom you’ll enjoy!
  • Create a budget either on paper or by using a simple tool like the EveryDollar Budgeting app. You can use this app to track your spending as well.

2. Review Your Budget

“Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us.” –Psalm 90:17 (ESV)

It’s easy to get stuck thinking that whatever you’re spending now is what you have to spend to survive each month, but most of the time, that simply isn’t the case. God’s favor is the first place you should go. We, as believers, can enjoy the favor of God in every area of our lives, which includes discounts other people don’t receive, special insight on how to save money, even goods and services for FREE.

So before you review your budget, go before the Lord, thank Him for His goodness and His favor; then ask Him to reveal to you where you could reduce your spending or get a better deal on what you already have.

Then…

  • Shop around for better deals on your auto and home insurance; and your cell, streaming and other services. Prices on these items can be negotiated, but do your homework and talk to other providers before calling your existing providers.
  • Also, review your current bank statement. Are there monthly charges you forgot you had? Or perhaps software, apps or memberships you rarely use? Cancel any  unnecessary subscriptions.
  • Reduce spending in areas such as eating out or clothing purchases.
  • Consider refinancing your home to a lower term. The interest rates on a 15-year mortgage are currently lower than a 30-year.

3. Commit to No New Debt and Saving $1,000

“Don’t be in debt to anyone.” –Romans 13:8 (CEB)

To enjoy debt freedom, you have to commit to no new debt, or you’ll keep yourself stuck in the same cycle. If there is something you want, wait until you’ve saved for it. Resist the temptation to charge for purchases, and ask God to help you walk in the fruit of self-control.

To aid in this effort, cut up your credit cards, or leave them in a lockbox at home, rather than in your wallet. Then, do as experts like Dave Ramsey recommend and save a $1,000 emergency fund to cover most unexpected things outside your budget.

4. Use a Debt Snowball

“Wisdom is the principal thing.” –Proverbs 4:7 (NKJV)

Experts like Dave Ramsey recommend a debt snowball, which is the strategy of paying off your smallest debts first. Rather than putting extra on every debt, you pay the minimum on everything but the smallest debt. Put everything you can into that debt until it is paid off. Then, move to the next smallest, and conquer that one, as well. It’s amazing what that sense of accomplishment will do as you move forward in your goal for total debt freedom!

5. Generate Extra Income

“Remember the Lord your God, for it is He Who gives you power to get wealth.” –Deuteronomy 8:18 (AMPC)

As believers, we should always be INCREASING—no matter what is going on in the world around us. One way to unlock God’s blessings is by obeying His Word, and stepping out and acting on your faith. If you’re waiting for a big check to drop in your lap while you’re sitting in your recliner watching cartoons, you’re in for a long wait. But…when you put feet to your faith and start doing what you can do to get out of debt (reducing spending, increasing your payments, etc.), you open the door for God to add His “super” to your “natural.”

To help accelerate your debt payments, you can look for ways to generate income in the natural. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • eBay did a study and found that people have, on average, $3100 worth of unused items in their household! Consider gathering and selling unused items.
  • If you regularly receive large tax refunds, consider adjusting your payroll withholdings. This will give you extra income each month to put toward debt.
  • Use all unexpected income—bonuses, raises, etc., to accelerate your debt snowball.
  • Ask for a raise! The main reason people don’t get raises or promotions? They don’t ask!
  • Consider taking on a side gig using one of your many talents to earn extra money.

As you put feet to your faith and seek to honor God’s Word to stay out of debt, God will meet you. There are countless stories of supernatural debt cancellations AFTER people have applied themselves and worked toward changing their habits.

6. Pay Off Your Mortgage

“You shall lend to many…but you shall not borrow.” –Deuteronomy 28:12 (ESV)

Seem too big a goal? Think again!

Henry Ford once said, “If you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right!” That lines up with Proverbs 23:7, which says, “As [a man] thinks in his heart, so is he” (NKJV).

You CAN pay off your mortgage! Once your other debts are paid, it’s time to go for it. Here are some tips to accelerate your process:

  • Take all the money you were applying toward other debt and payments, and put it all into your mortgage.
  • Be sure all extra payments are being applied to PRINCIPAL ONLY.
  • You can knock seven years off your mortgage by making half payments every two weeks, rather than monthly!

God wants you to be debt free. Go to the Lord, and tell Him the desires of your heart to own your home free and clear. Write it down in your journal, and declare aloud daily, “I own my home debt free in the Name of Jesus!” Then affirm it by saying, “Thank You, Jesus, that I am debt free!”

7. Avoid Car Debt

“A wise man will hear and increase learning.” –Proverbs 1:5 (NKJV)

Once your cars are paid off, begin making car payments to…yourself. That’s right. The average monthly car payment is $425 per month. If you do that for 3 years, you’ll have $15,300 to put toward your next car!

8. Stay Out of Debt

“The Lord will guarantee a blessing on everything you do.” –Deuteronomy 28:8

Once your debt is paid (minus your home), increase your savings to three to six months’ living expenses. This will give you a stronger cushion for the future. And here’s the exciting part. Once you’re debt free, you can move into abundant living and extravagant giving! You can sow large offerings when God calls you to do so. You can save for college or vacations. You can invest and grow your finances to a place you’ve always dreamed.

9. Put Your Faith To Work

“Have faith in God.” –Mark 11:22

Each of these principles will work for any person, but when you put your faith to work alongside them, your results will be ACCELERATED and INCREASED supernaturally. Who wouldn’t want that?!

As you put feet to your faith and take steps to achieve debt freedom, EXPECT supernatural results. That means the kind of results that the world can never see. The kind of results that are exceedingly, abundantly above all you could ask or imagine.

Part of faith for debt freedom is recognizing the biblical principle of sowing and reaping. It may seem counterintuitive, but tithing and giving are critical to your debt freedom. Obedience to God’s Word opens the door to THE BLESSING.

10. Watch Debt Freedom Testimonies

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for…” –Hebrews 11:1 (KJV)

One way to get to debt freedom FAST is to build your faith through the power of testimonies.

If you’ve been around KCM for a while, you know we have quite a few testimonies of debt freedom among our Partners and Friends! You’ll find them in our books, on our website and all over KCM’s YouTube® page.

God is no respecter of persons. What He’ll do for your brother and sister in the Lord, He’ll do for you. Listen to their journeys, learn where they missed it, and how they fixed it. Let testimonies of debt freedom feed your faith. They will keep you going when circumstances don’t seem to be improving.

Here’s a testimony of debt freedom to get you started:

When Mylon Le Fevre first got saved, he had a massive amount of debt. It was so much, it seemed impossible that he could ever get out. As a new Christian, he had learned that God said in Romans 13:8 to get out of debt and stay out of debt.

So, he met with a financial counselor who mapped everything out for him, including how much he would need to put aside each month to achieve debt freedom.

Mylon put everything he had into getting out of debt. He didn’t eat out or purchase anything (he only bought the food he needed and paid his bills). He took steps of faith! Though the financial advisor said it would take five years and eight months, all of Mylon’s debt was gone in 18 months!
