How To Receive a Miracle: 10 Faith Actions You Can Take Today

Want to know how to receive a miracle? Find out what actions you can take to participate in His plan for you.

If you need a miracle today, you need to know this: Miracles are not just hit-or-miss. You can tap into a miracle. God doesn’t just sometimes decide to do a miracle, and sometimes not to. No. He is always ready to do a miracle in your life.

Here’s the key.

You are not a spectator. You are an active participant!

If you need a miracle in your life—get off the couch, get involved and receive your miracle with these 10 faith actions you can take today.

Action Step No. 1: Worship the Lord Every Morning

“His praise will always be on my lips.” –Psalm 34:1 (NIV)

Some people think as long as they love God and are faithful to Him, the blessings will flow in. But worshipping and praising the Lord put everything in the proper perspective. It puts God at the head of your life and circumstances. It announces to the world, the devil and all your troubles that you are in the hands of Almighty God, and you know it, trust it and have faith to receive a miracle.

That’s why Kenneth Copeland says, “Praise is the big gun of faith.”

That’s how Paul and Silas received deliverance from prison. Instead of begging and pleading with God, or complaining about their situation, Paul and Silas “were praying and singing hymns to God” (Acts 16:25, NIV). The result? “All the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose” (verse 26, NIV). All the doors. Every chain. All because of worshipping and praising God.

Kenneth Hagin once shared a testimony of a missionary who had contracted smallpox before there was a vaccine, at a time when it was often fatal. As she prayed, the Lord gave her a vision of a scale with prayer on one side and praise on the other. He said, “When your praises equal your prayers, you will be healed.”

She spent two days doing nothing but praising God. She didn’t ask Him for anything. At the end of the two days, she was completely healed.

That’s how you receive a miracle!

Action Step No. 2: Make a Forgiveness List

“And whenever you stand praying, forgive.” –Mark 11:25 (ESV)

Think you can receive a miracle with bitterness in your heart? Think again.

If you need a miracle—don’t delay!—sit down and make a forgiveness list today. Get quiet before the Lord and ask Him to reveal to you anyone you haven’t forgiven in your life (this could go way back). Write down everyone who comes to mind. It could be an entire group like a neighborhood, a church or a school.

There may be tiny little “nothings” on the list, but those are important, too! It’s the small foxes that ruin the vines. Then, ask God to help you forgive. It often takes supernatural help.

From this day forward, keep your forgiveness list empty. Every time someone offends you, forgive immediately. This faith action could be the missing link to receive your miracle.

Action Step No. 3: Sharpen Your Listening Skills

“For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.” –Romans 8:14 (NIV)

God wants you to receive your miracle, and He has some special instructions for you. Can you hear Him? If you’re wrapped up in thinking about your troubles or needs, the noise may be loud enough to block out His still, small voice.

Be intentional about getting quiet before the Lord. Sharpen your listening skills and expect to hear from Him.

Keith Moore has seen many miracles in his life, and his advice is this: “If you want to see a miracle, you must first hear from Him.” This is the most critical step and one that many people try to skip. Then they wonder why they don’t see a manifestation in their lives.

When you hear from the Lord, He will give you an instruction—something He wants you to do to receive your miracle. That is always how God has worked.

When Jesus healed the man with leprosy, He said, “Stretch out your hand” (Matthew 12:13, NIV). When did the miracle happen exactly? When the man stretched out his hand. “Go, wash in the pool” (John 9:7, AMP). “Fill the jars with water” (John 2:7). “Pick up your mat, and walk” (John 5:8). Instruction always preceded a miracle.

Expect to hear from Him. Then, do whatever He tells you to do, and you will receive your miracle!

Action Step No. 4: Only Speak the Language of Faith

“He will have whatever he says.” –Mark 11:23 (NKJV)

If you need a miracle—or want to live in everyday victory—you’ve got to learn to only speak the language of faith. The Bible is clear that our words have power to release life, death and whatever we say. So, whatever you’re living in today is likely the result of yesterday’s words.

Until you reach the point of speaking faith every day, you need to do what Kenneth Copeland told Mylon Le Fevre to do years ago when Mylon was new to walking by faith.

Mylon was telling Kenneth all about his troubles, even though he said he was believing God to help him. Kenneth said to him, “Son, you need to learn the language of silence.”

Kenneth was telling him that until he could learn how to speak faith, he needed to keep quiet.

It’s advice Kenneth gives often. Jerry Savelle shares about what Kenneth said to him when he was first learning to walk by faith.

“Before God transformed my life, I asked Kenneth Copeland why nothing was working in my life, and he said, ‘Jerry, your problem is your big mouth. You need to learn the vocabulary of silence.’ And then he said, ‘If you can’t talk the Word, then shut up.’ Once I learned how to ‘bridle my tongue’ (James 3:1-9), things began to change in my life!”

You may already know about the importance of your words, but you will always have to be intentional about only speaking the language of faith.

Action Step No. 5: Don’t Take No for an Answer

“All the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen.” –2 Corinthians 1:20 (NKJV)

If you need a miracle, do you accept a bad report as final? If you need a miracle in your body and the doctor says, “You’re going to be on medication for life,” are you accepting it? Or do you fight?

It can be tempting to tuck your tail between your legs and walk away wondering why nothing ever works out. But that isn’t what we’ve been told to do! The next time you hear a no from the world when the Lord has already said, “Yes,” stop and consider your response.

Be willing and ready to fight for what’s yours in the spirit realm. You have a right to enjoy the promises of God, but they won’t just fall in your lap. Go after them today. God’s yes will always overcome every no. That’s what a miracle is!

Action Step No. 6: Refuse to Doubt

“Don’t be afraid; just believe.” –Mark 5:36 (NIV)

Once you take a stand against the world’s no, the devil will be right there pulling every trick out of his bag to get you to let go of your faith and grab on to fear and doubt. He’ll say, “You’re not going to get that miracle. You don’t deserve it. Remember how many times you’ve failed God.”

How do you receive a miracle? Refuse to entertain those doubt-filled thoughts. Instead, answer him and say, “Bless the Lord, I don’t get what I deserve. I get what Jesus bought for me. I get the mercy of God. I get a miracle!” That’s why, when Jairus received the news that his daughter had died, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe” (Mark 5:36, NIV). He knew that if Jairus stayed out of doubt and unbelief, the way would be clear for God to do a miracle. That’s a good word for all of us who are positioning ourselves for a miracle. No matter what the devil says, no matter what circumstances may say, no matter what our natural senses might try to tell us—if we’ll refuse to doubt, refuse to fear and keep on believing God, our miracle will surely come!

Action Step No. 7: Don’t Just Sit There—Do Something!

“Faith without works is dead.” –James 2:26 (NKJV)

As important as it is to resist doubt, faith alone won’t get the whole job done. You can’t just sit around believing on the inside and do nothing on the outside. For faith to come alive, you have to take action. If you’re waiting for a miracle today, don’t just sit there—take action! When Jesus performed His first miracle, John 2 tells us that He and His mother were attending a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the host ran out of wine. Mary looked to Jesus to do something about it. She was expecting a miracle when she turned to the servants and said, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”

Mylon Le Fevre can attest to this truth. When he first got saved, he had a massive amount of debt, and he knew God had told him, according to Romans 13:8, to get out of debt. So he met with a financial counselor who mapped everything out for him, including how much he would need to put aside each month.

Mylon put everything he had into getting out of debt. He didn’t eat out or purchase anything (he only bought the food he needed and paid his bills). Though the financial advisor said it would take five years and eight months, all of Mylon’s debt disappeared in 18 months! That’s one of the major keys to receiving a miracle. Whatever the Lord says to you—do it! When you take action, He will meet you there with a supernatural result.

Action Step No. 8: Plant the Word of God

“The seed is the word of God.” –Luke 8:11 (NKJV)

If you need a harvest today, the big question is, have you planted anything? To reap a spiritual harvest, you’ve got to plant the Word of God in your heart.

A lot of people try to skip that step. They try to believe for a miracle without spending enough time in the Word to change their hearts and minds. They just want to confess it with their mouths and have it instantly appear. But that won’t happen. It’s what we believe in our heart and say with our mouths that we receive.

If you don’t have enough faith yet to believe for the miracle you need, then you can get it. “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17, NKJV). So, start planting the Word in your heart until faith for your miracle is born.

Action Step No. 9: Learn the Art of Waiting

“Do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” –Hebrews 6:12 (NKJV)

The difference between receiving a miracle and not receiving, often comes down to your willingness to wait. Faith and patience are the power twins. Patience keeps your faith strong until you cross the finish line.

Learn the biblical art of waiting! Develop the kind of patience that knows if you believed you received it—you have it.

Patience will guard you from your feelings and from watching the clock. Let patience have her perfect work. Patience comes and holds the door of faith open. Praise God! It won’t let the devil slam it. It won’t let anything shut it. It just keeps calling things that be not as though they were. It keeps acting as though it was already done.

Action Step No. 10: Expect the Impossible

“All things are possible to him who believes.” –Mark 9:23 (NKJV)

Did you know the spirit of expectancy is key to receiving your miracle? If you only see the natural realm of the possible as what is possible for you—that’s not faith! God works miracles because we believe! We could look at one miracle after another and see that truth in action.  

  • In Mark 5:34, when the woman with the issue of blood receives her healing, Jesus says, “Daughter, your faith has made you well.”  
  • In Luke 17:19, the leper is healed and made whole. Why? Jesus said, “Your faith has healed you.”  
  • In Mark 10:52, blind Bartimaeus received the miracle of his sight restored. The reason? Jesus said, “Your faith has healed you.”

In every case, the faith of the people is credited with the receiving of a miracle. That’s your part—expecting the impossible. It opens the door for God’s power and allows a supernatural flow of the blessings of God into your life. If you need a miracle today, you can put these 10 faith actions to work in your life, and you will see what you’re believing for. It’s time to get in the game! Make God your focus, rather than your circumstances, and your miracle will come.

How To Experience Signs, Wonders and Miracles

Do you want to see the supernatural in your life? Here is how you can experience signs, wonders and miracles where you need them most.

The supernatural. People the world over desire to experience the miraculous—to see and experience those things that are over and above, beyond, higher, surpassing and outside the natural realm. But for most, particularly nonbelievers, life is limited to the earthly realm, conforming to the ordinary course of nature and those things that can be deduced by human reasoning alone.

As born-again believers, that is not where we are meant to reside! We are created to walk and live in the supernatural and to experience supernatural healing, provision, favor, deliverance and protection. We are living in a time right now when we need to know how to live in the supernatural—to experience signs, wonder and miracles.

Bill Winston has declared that this is the Year of the Supernatural, and Kenneth Copeland has prophesied, “Rejoice! And renew your faith in the supernatural!”

If you need a miracle in your life—your victory is waiting for you in the supernatural. Here is how you can experience signs, wonders and miracles where you need them most.

1. Believe the Love of God

“We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us.” –1 John 4:16 (NASB)

Do you need a miracle? Love is the answer. You may be thinking money is the answer, healing is the answer, or deliverance is the answer. But those are just the manifestations of the real power behind every miracle—the love of God.

You see, you will never walk in the realm of the miraculous until you understand the love of God for you and for all people. We’re not just talking about any love, but THE LOVE. Because God IS LOVE. He doesn’t have love. HE IS LOVE!

First John 4:16 says, “And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him” (NKJV).

Notice in this verse it says, “We have known and believed the love.” To believe is to have faith in His love. Most Christians don’t have faith in His love. If you were to ask them if God loves them, most would say yes, but they don’t really believe it. They just mentally agree with John 3:16.

Consider Mark 4:37-38: “And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” (NKJV).

Love Himself was asleep in that boat—the same One who was moved with compassion and healed their sick. Compassion is not a feeling; it’s a Person. Jesus said, “The Father who dwells in me does the work” (John 14:10, NKJV). It’s the Father, who is LOVE, who does the work.

People today often think and say the same thing Jesus’ disciples said in that boat: “How come You let this come on me, Lord? Don’t You care?” What is that? It’s unbelief! In what? THE LOVE—WHO IS GOD—WHO IS LOVE.

To have faith in God is to have faith in love itself. Faith works by love. Without believing in the love of God for YOU, you will not be able to fuel the kind of faith it takes to experience signs, wonders and miracles in your life.

To develop your faith in God’s love, or in anything else from God, you have to learn what the Word says about it. “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17, NKJV).

For instance, Psalm 23:6, NKJV, says, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.” Put that verse from the Word first place. Don’t ever go by how you feel about the love of God. Don’t confess anything else. Be confident in the fact that God’s mercy and goodness will follow you all the days of your life.

If you have the idea today that God is not willing to get in your deal with you—you aren’t believing the love of God. Maybe you’re saying, “Well, I just don’t know what to do.”

Well, it’s praising time when you don’t know what to do.  Start by praising. Then, fill up on the Word!

Ask yourself this: Are you spending enough time with God?  Which are you spending the most time on?  The television or Him?  You’re going to have to ask yourself that question, because if you’re not spending any time with Him, sickness is coming; trouble is coming.

Start by reading 1 John every day for two weeks. Meditate on the scriptures concerning God’s love—it will develop your capacity for faith. As your faith grows, your understanding of God’s love will expand until Satan’s tactics begin to shrink and lose their grip over your life. Then, you’ll become a prime candidate for experiencing signs, wonders and miracles.

Settle this forever—healing belongs to you, deliverance belongs to you, victory is your inheritance. However, the ball is in your court. You don’t have to try to get God to manifest a miracle in your life. Love already provided everything for you. But it starts with believing. Say this:

“I believe the love is in me now. I believe it never fails. I believe God is Love.”

2. Receive the Love of God

 “And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” –Ephesians 3:17-19 (NIV)

Believing is the foundation, but so many people stop short of receiving the love of God. They don’t feel worthy, they fear He won’t come through for them, or they fear He is able but maybe not willing—at least not for them. They camp out on past failures and they put themselves in the position of judge and jury—rather than God who declared them innocent with the blood of Jesus.

Unworthiness, guilt and shame all stem from fear, and the enemy is lingering, waiting to use your fear as a back door to steal the inventory outlined in the Word of God that belongs to you. That’s why healing, prosperity and deliverance always come, but they aren’t always received. But there’s one way to keep what God has given to you—and it’s to receive the love of God without fear.

Fear is a thief. Fear will block the miraculous in your life. In the Gospel of Luke, we get an up-close view of how Jesus dealt with fear when a man was facing a serious trial:

Then a man named Jairus, a synagogue leader, came and fell at Jesus’ feet, pleading with him to come to his house because his only daughter, a girl of about twelve, was dying…. While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” he said. “Don’t bother the teacher anymore.” Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed” (Luke 8:41-42, 49-50, NIV).

Why was Jesus so quick to tell Jairus not to fear? Because He knew fear would hinder Jairus from receiving. Fear tolerated is faith contaminated—that’s a spiritual fact. Fear will prevent your miracle from taking place. And if you couldn’t do something about fear, Jesus wouldn’t have told Jairus to stop it.

What gets rid of fear? Love-filled faith will cast it out.

Focusing on receiving the love of God will stop fear in its tracks. Believing and receiving the love of God will put your focus in the right place to experience signs, wonders and miracles.

Kenneth Copeland experienced this when he twisted his ankle and nearly broken it. It was swollen and painful. He was attending a Kenneth E. Hagin meeting, and he wondered how he was going to make it through. Gloria laid hands on him before the meeting started. Then, as Kenneth locked in on the Word of God being preached by Brother Hagin, his focus shifted from his problem to the love of God.

By the end of the meeting, he was completely healed! He had received his healing without knowing when or how—he had just been completely focused on the Word instead of his problem. The love of God had driven out fear about his situation.

If you’re believing for healing today, one thing is true—God has done all He’s going to do about healing you. Maybe you’re thinking, Well, then how come I’m not healed if I’m healed? Because you keep saying you’re not, and you have what you say. If you want to experience signs, wonders and miracles, you have to receive the love of God with your words. Change your words, change your outcome.

Make it official today—receive the love of God—gather the scriptures you’re standing on to receive the miracle you need. If it is healing, for example, gather those scriptures, and speak them over your situation by faith. Then, rejoice as you receive!

When you get to that point, where you’re rejoicing before you receive, there’s no going back.  It doesn’t matter what pain or what demon comes at you. You have received love and faith will boil over. You just stay in the Word, and it’ll boil because faith is coming.  Faith is coming. You can’t feel it, but it’s coming. You keep the water on the heat, and it’ll boil. Amen. That’s believing in and receiving the love of God.

3. Release the Love of God

 “Love never fails.” –1 Corinthians 13:5 (NKJV)

If you aren’t experiencing signs, wonders and miracles—it’s time to check your love walk to be sure you are releasing the love of God that you have believed and received.

When you walk in love, you release a force to work on your behalf—a force that has all the appearance of weakness, but is stronger than any force in existence.

A critical part of experiencing signs, wonders and miracles is acting on the Word concerning the love of God. To walk in love is to step aside and allow the power of the love of God to come between you and the situation with which you are dealing.

First John 4:11-12 says, “Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us” (NKJV).

The Word perfected means “allowed to run its full course.” By practicing this love on one another, the love of God is perfected, or allowed to run its full course, in us.

By acting on the Word of God and allowing the love of God, which is perfect, to run its full course in our lives, we keep the gates open for signs, miracles and wonders.

There are two ways to perfect the love of God in your life:

  1. By keeping the Word of God in your eyes, heart and mouth.
  2. By practicing love on others.

Love takes practice, and we can practice on each other. You won’t operate perfectly in love at the very beginning; but as you persist, you will get increasingly better at it. If you fail, simply confess it as sin, receive your forgiveness and go on. Keep loving. Keep overlooking the shortcomings of other people. Look for Jesus in them. Forgive immediately and stay out of offense.
Decide to live the love life. Make the quality decision to live by love, and you’ll keep the door open to the miracle you need.
In conclusion, believing, receiving and releasing the love of God is the ticket to signs, wonders and miracles—there’s no way around it. No amount of prayer, serving, pleading or Scripture memorization can take its place. Love has always been the answer. If you’ve been believing for healing, financial breakthrough or deliverance for a long time, put your focus on love. It NEVER fails.

God loves you. Do you believe that? If you ever sat through Sunday school as a child, you probably believe that on a simple level. However, now that you’re an adult, ask yourself that question again, considering all your life experiences and religious training: Do you believe, truly believe, that God loves you? Do you trust the love of God when you get up in the morning and lay down at night? Do you know it when you’re at work and when you’re at home, when you’re surrounded by fellow believers and when you’re all alone?

This is important, because how you answer that question affects so much. It will change the way you interact with your heavenly Father, your family and even yourself. First John 4:7-10 explains the depth of God’s love this way:

Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love. God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.

God’s love for you—and every other person—is the reason He sacrificed His Son for mankind. It is also why He sent the Holy Spirit as a gift to the Body of Christ. Need more proof? Just read 1 John 4:13-16: “And God has given us his Spirit as proof that we live in him and he in us. Furthermore, we have seen with our own eyes and now testify that the Father sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. All who declare that Jesus is the Son of God have God living in them, and they live in God. We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love.”

You can never get away from God’s love. No matter what you have or haven’t done in your life, His love is always with you. However, you can greatly hinder the effect of His love in your life by living and acting like you don’t trust in His love. Below are six telltale signs that you are not really trusting in the love of God.

1. When You Blame God During Challenges

It’s easy to profess that God loves you when everything is going well, but what about when challenges come? That’s when you may find yourself turning on God and asking, “Why did You let this happen to me?”

That isn’t a new response. It’s the same one the disciples had when a storm threatened to topple their boat. “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?” they asked (Mark 4:38).

If they had truly understood God’s love for them, they would have recognized that: 1) Jesus, the Messiah, was with them, and 2) The storm was no problem for Him to handle.

James 1:2-8 tells us to handle crises like this:

Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.  So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask Him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.

When challenges come, you don’t want to have divided loyalty, or as the King James Version puts it, be “double minded.” You want to trust in the love of God’to help you overcome every obstacle.

2. When You Blame Your Lack of Faith on Your Humanity

You’ve heard believers say, “We’re only human.” What a false statement! You may have been “only human” before you were born again, but as a born-again believer in the Most High God, you are more than “only human.” Ephesians 2:10 calls you “God’s masterpiece…. created anew.” You are a new creation, and the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead now lives in you.

Right before His death, Jesus prayed this for every believer:

I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me. I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one. I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me. Father, I want these whom you have given me to be with me where I am. Then they can see all the glory you gave me because you loved me even before the world began! (John 17:20-24)

Never again consider yourself “only human.” You are a born-again human, and there’s a difference. God now lives in you with all of His power and glory, and that is anything but normal. It is a miracle!

3. When You Allow Fear Into Your Life

Love never fails (1 Corinthians 13:8, NKJV). Think about that: God’s love for you—His provision for you, His care for you, His interest in you—never fails. However, if you allow fear into your life, then you are denying that love. And when you deny that love, you open the door for the enemy to wreak havoc. Fear can create the double-mindedness we talked about earlier. It’s the double-mindedness that says, “Sure, God loves me,” and then thinks, but maybe He wants me sick. It’s also the double-mindedness that says, “Yes, God loves me, but maybe He’s mad at me because I haven’t done (fill in the blank).”

However, if you’ll turn away from fear and toward God and His Word, you won’t just manage fear (i.e., keep it at bay); you’ll expel it (1 John 4:18).

4. When You Deny Your Right

You probably know Jesus as your Savior, but have you considered that He is your advocate, too? First John tells you that when you fall short—and everyone falls short—that you have an advocate with the Father. Jesus doesn’t fill that position grudgingly or resentfully. No, He paid the ultimate price to hold that position for you and every other believer. That’s the right—your right—that He made possible. So, when you need forgiveness, you can simply and earnestly ask for it in Jesus’ Name, and you will receive it. Praise God!

5. When You Embrace Hate and Unforgiveness

First John 2:9-11 tells us just how important it is to walk in forgiveness: “If anyone claims, ‘I am living in the light,’ but hates a fellow believer, that person is still living in darkness. Anyone who loves a fellow believer is living in the light and does not cause others to stumble.   But anyone who hates a fellow believer is still living and walking in darkness. Such a person does not know the way to go, having been blinded by the darkness.”

Jesus paid the price needed to free you from the enemy’s hold on your life, but there are instances when you can invite the enemy back into your life. We covered one way above—by embracing fear—but there is another way—by entertaining hate and unforgiveness. It’s only when we walk in love with others that we can enjoy the peace and security of the love of God. 

6. When You Give in to Reckless Words

Jesus implied just how important the words we speak are when He said, “The words I speak are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does his work through me” (John 14:10b). He only spoke what the Father told Him to speak. Being fully God and fully human, He could have chosen to give in to human urgings and speak without faith, but He didn’t…and neither should you. Reckless words often lead to double-mindedness, fear, unforgiveness and turning against God.

If you find yourself doing anyone of these six things, take a moment to repent before God, and ask Him to give you a deeper revelation of His love for you. You must do more than simply will yourself not to give into these tendencies. You must first accept God’s unparalleled and all-encompassing love. He loves you. Period. As His child, He is on your side 100 percent of the time. By clinging to His Word, you can build your faith and change your life to reflect the love of God and be a beacon of light to a hurting and disillusioned world.

7 Ways To Worship God In Spirit And In Truth

“But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship Him that way.” –John 4:23

As believers, we’re called to worship God “in spirit and in truth” (John 4:23). But you may wonder, “How can I worship God daily? How can I worship God at home? How can I worship God wherever I am?” The good news is, you can—and worship is a powerful spiritual exercise in any believer’s life. It played a vital role in the Israelites’ winning their first battle after entering the Promise Land (Joshua 6). It was instrumental in Paul and Silas’ release from prison (Acts 16:24-26). It reflected the thanksgiving and heartfelt praise of God’s people throughout all 150 psalms, repeatedly allowing them to express their nagging fears, their miraculous feats and their enduring faith in the Him. These examples and more show just what can happen when God’s people worship Him “in spirit and in truth.”

What Does Worshiping ‘in Truth’ Mean?

“Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ” (Colossians 2:8, NKJV).
The first step in understanding how to worship is recognizing whom to worship. We worship the Father in spirit and in truth (John 4:23). When we worship in truth, we don’t worship empty philosophies that come from the world’s way of thinking (Colossians 2:8). Instead, we focus on the message and the truth of Jesus Christ. “Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts” (Colossians 3:16).

Man’s way of thinking is not God’s way of thinking (Isaiah 55:8). In order to worship in truth, we must know the truth, which is found in the Bible. We must continually renew our minds to the Word of God by spending time studying every day (Romans 12:2). When our minds are renewed to what He says is truth (and not the world), we will be able to come to Him and worship Him in spirit and in truth.

Why Preparing for Worship Is Important

“Well, my brothers and sisters, let’s summarize. When you meet together, one will sing, another will teach, another will tell some special revelation God has given, one will speak in tongues, and another will interpret what is said. But everything that is done must strengthen all of you” (1 Corinthians 14:26).

The beauty of worship occurs in community with other like-minded believers. There is a depth and strength that comes when believers join together in worship, much like the Israelites did around Jericho and like Paul and Silas did in prison. In 1 Corinthians 14:26, Paul explains aspects of orderly worship. While orderly worship is not the immediate topic here, this scripture shows the importance of preparing for worship. The one singing needs to select the song, practice and prepare his or her heart before the service begins. Likewise, the one teaching needs to prepare to receive and deliver the message before the service.

The responsibility to prepare for worship doesn’t just fall to the worship team and the pastor. We should all come to the house of worship prepared—whether you are singing, teaching, preaching, speaking, prophesying, serving or receiving. Sunday worship is not a time to be entertained and expecting to be served, but it’s a time when God’s children gather to give Him honor and praise and to be strengthened.

So, how do you prepare for worship on Sunday? You prepare by getting your heart ready. Use the night before or early morning before the service to seek the Lord by practicing private worship, reading the Bible and praying. Fix your thoughts on the truth of Jesus and all He has done for you. Pray for the service and ask the Lord to help you receive from Him. You may even want to set aside a special time in your schedule to prepare for weekly worship.

7 Ways to Express Worship

For some, expressing themselves in worship can be uncomfortable, especially if they are new Christians. You go to some churches, and the congregation never stands up. They don’t sing, but they just sit and listen to the worship music. Others may sing but they don’t play instruments. Still others will be waving their hands, shouting and running around as the band plays every kind of instrument. Which way to worship is correct?

Well, the Bible outlines seven different types of worship, and they are all appropriate, with each having its place. Let’s examine them:

1. Barak–To kneel, to bless God, to bow down

“He will rescue the poor when they cry to him; he will help the oppressed, who have no one to defend them…. Long live the king! May the gold of Sheba be given to him, may the people always pray for him and bless him all day long.” –Psalm 72:12-15

Barak means to bow down to, or kneel before, the Lord. It communicates that the Lord holds a place of importance and helps us remember just how great He is. Barak is not done out of a begging attitude but rather an expectant attitude, because the Lord is more than willing and able to move on our behalf.

2. Halal–To be clear, to shine, to boast, to show, to rave, to celebrate, to be clamorously foolish

“David appointed the following Levites to lead the people in worship before the Ark of the Lord—to invoke his blessings, to give thanks, and to praise the Lord, the God of Israel.” –1 Chronicles 16:4

Halal appears more than 110 times in the Old Testament. It translates as to shine, boast, rave about, celebrate or even to be clamorously foolish. Can you imagine a more wondrous noise raving about about all the Lord is and all He has done?

3. Shabach–To shout loudly, to command

“Come, everyone! Clap your hands! Shout to God with joyful praise!” –Psalm 47:1

Shabach means to shout loudly or command. Of course, it isn’t simply about being loud. Its focus is to worship the Lord with one’s whole being.

4. Tehillah–To sing praises, singing out of the spirit spontaneously

“But you are holy, O You Who dwell in [the holy place where] the praises of Israel [are offered].” –Psalm 22:3, AMPC

Tehillah means to sing unrehearsed, unplanned praises to the Lord. It can include adding words to an existing song or even singing in the spirit to the Lord.

5. Towdah–Extending hands, acting out of thanksgiving for what has or will be done

“But giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me. If you keep to my path, I will reveal to you the salvation of God.” –Psalm 50:23

Towdah is a type of worship that includes extending your hands or raising them in thanksgiving for something that has been done or will be done.

6. Yadah– Extending the hands vigorously

“After consulting the people, the king appointed singers to walk ahead of the army, singing to the Lord and praising him for his holy splendor. This is what they sang: ‘Give thanks to the Lord; his faithful love endures forever!’”
–2 Chronicles 20:21

Yadah means to extend your hands vigorously as in complete surrender.

7. Zamar – To touch the strings, to make music with instruments, mostly rejoicing

“Praise him with a blast of the ram’s horn; praise him with the lyre and harp! Praise him with the tambourine and dancing; praise him with strings and flutes! Praise him with a clash of cymbals; praise him with loud clanging cymbals. Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord! Praise the Lord!” –Psalm 150:3-6

Zamar means to touch the strings. It involves rejoicing and making music to the Lord.

Allow the Holy Spirit to speak to you about the seven ways to worship in spirit and in truth. How can you incorporate them into your personal and corporate worship? Remember, praising God is to be on our lips, or spoken (Isaiah 57:19), and we are to do it continually as a sacrifice (Hebrews 13:15). God promises that when we praise and worship Him, He inhabits those praises (Psalm 22:3), and it gives us strength to defeat our enemy (Psalm 8:2).
