Faith and Fitness: A Partner’s Story of Marketplace Ministry

Vaughn Whitfield, originally from Georgia, currently resides in Maryland with his wife and four children. A combat veteran, he served in the Navy then worked for the federal government. Through it all, he kept up a lifestyle of personal training and fitness.

After nearly 20 years at his job, he was led by the Holy Spirit to leave that position so he and his wife could start a bootcamp fitness company. “It was definitely a leap of faith, but God opened the door, and He made a way,” said Whitfield. He put the plan on paper to make it plain, just as Habakuk 2:2 instructs. Then he began to meditate on the Word for many hours every day, and the Lord began to show him specific direction.

Seek First the Kingdom

The Whitfields learned about Kenneth Copeland Ministries from their local church. As a result, they have been Partners with KCM for about 15 years. He’s learned about faith through his church and through KC’s teaching. What he had learned through the years was that they could start the business venture in which they felt the Lord was leading them. Through the faith teachings and his personal Bible study, he could see that “there is nothing too small, nothing too big that we couldn’t accomplish with our faith,” as he put it.

He has learned through this process that seeking God is the most important thing, just as Matthew 6:33 instructs; and Hebrews 11:6, which says the Lord rewards those who diligently seek Him. Jeremiah 29:13 is particularly precious to him, which says those who seek God with all their heart will find Him. “I know I was searching with all of my heart on every occasion,” he stated with a smile. “And the Lord has showed up and been faithful every time.”

Against All Odds

The Whitfields opened their gym in the middle of the pandemic, in December 2020. “As believers, we don’t try to ‘sell’ what we have,” he stated. “We try to be a blessing to the community for what we have [to offer].”

He went on to say: “Everyone is not called to be behind a pulpit. So, we [must] take the anointing God has placed in our lives so that we can influence our area—so that we can spread out.”

Fired up with the Word of Faith, he knows that wherever the Lord directs them, they can go. “It’s about taking over territory. And any territory we take over [in] that marketplace, we can influence the entire community,” he said.

A Different Kind of Ministry

Whitfield comes across people every day who may not ever go to church. However, when they walk into the facility, they’ll see a sign displayed prominently on the wall: I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:13). “They’ll notice that there is no profanity in our music. They’ll notice the kindness we have when they walk through the door. They’ll notice there’s a difference.”

According to Whitfield, being a part of KCM [as Partners] has blessed his family several times over in the past few years. The revelation knowledge that has come forth has impacted their lives greatly. “We’re just so thankful.”
