If you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you have a covenant of protection that blankets you like a canopy of trees over you. Do you know what your covenant of protection delivers you from in the world and the enemy?
Terrors of the Night
Psalm 91:5 says, “Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night.”
Night terrors can be anything from a bad dream to such fear and dread that you can’t sleep. The covenant of protection God provides delivers and protects you from any night attack, whether in your mind or reality.
Arrow That Flies in the Day
Psalm 91:5 also reminds you not to be afraid of “the arrow that flies in the day.”
An arrow is an actual weapon that can inflict pain and possibly death. When Psalm 91 was written, bows and arrows were weapons used in conflict and war. If you or your loved one is fighting an enemy, you can be at peace knowing your covenant-keeping God is protecting you and them from every weapon of the enemy.
Disease That Stalks in Darkness
Psalm 91:6 says, “Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness.”
Throughout history, deadly diseases have stalked the earth. Bubonic plague, Cholera, Smallpox and recently COVID-19 have killed millions of people. Your covenant of protection promises to protect you from all sickness and disease.
Disaster That Strikes at Midday
Psalm 91:6 continues to tell you not to dread “the disaster that strikes at midday.”
Over the last 20 years, America has seen horrendous life-altering events: the disaster and subsequent destruction of the Twin Towers in New York, the terrorist attack against the Pentagon, and the attempt to fly an airplane into the White House. The tragedies resulted in the crashes and loss of thousands of people, which were events from which some are still trying to recover. Volcanic eruptions, hurricanes, tornadoes, and wildfires seem to be becoming increasingly common.
Many storms have simply dissipated; many fires have been stopped at people’s property lines, because someone who believed God’s Word stood up and said, “Stop, in the Name of Jesus!” They used the authority Jesus gave them.
Your Covenant of Protection
In the same way, you can use the authority Jesus gave you. Jesus said, “I saw Satan fall, a bolt of lightning out of the sky. See what I’ve given you? Safe passage as you walk on snakes and scorpions, and protection from every assault of the Enemy. No one can put a hand on you. All the same, the great triumph is not in your authority over evil, but in God’s authority over you and presence with you. Not what you do for God but what God does for you—that’s the agenda for rejoicing” (Luke 10:18-20, MSG).
To live and abide in your covenant of protection, recite the promises from Psalm 91 in The Passion Translation aloud. No matter what comes against you, you can stay safe under the shelter of the Most High, abiding under His canopy of protection.
1 When you abide under the shadow of Shaddai, you are hidden in the strength of God Most High.
2 He’s the hope that holds me and the stronghold to shelter me, the only God for me, and my great confidence.
3 He will rescue you from every hidden trap of the enemy, and he will protect you from false accusation and any deadly curse.
4 His massive arms are wrapped around you, protecting you. You can run under his covering of majesty and hide. His arms of faithfulness are a shield keeping you from harm.
5 You will never worry about an attack of demonic forces at night, nor have to fear a spirit of darkness coming against you.
6 Don’t fear a thing! Whether by night or by day, demonic danger will not trouble you,
nor will the powers of evil be launched against you.
7 Even in a time of disaster, with thousands and thousands being killed, you will remain unscathed and unharmed.
8 You will be a spectator as the wicked perish in judgment, for they will be paid back for what they have done!
9-10 When we live our lives within the shadow of God Most High, our secret hiding place, we will always be shielded from harm. How then could evil prevail against us or disease infect us?
11 God sends angels with special orders to protect you wherever you go, defending you from all harm.
12 If you walk into a trap, they’ll be there for you and keep you from stumbling.
13 You’ll even walk unharmed among the fiercest powers of darkness, trampling every one of them beneath your feet!
14 For here is what the Lord has spoken to me: “Because you loved me, delighted in me, and have been loyal to my name, I will greatly protect you.
15 I will answer your cry for help every time you pray, and you will feel my presence
in your time of trouble. I will deliver you and bring you honor.
16 I will satisfy you with a full life and with all that I do for you. For you will enjoy the fullness of my salvation!”
