Just as there are spiritual enemies that want to dismantle and defeat the kingdom of God by keeping us ignorant and divided over who we are as believers in Jesus Christ—sons and daughters of the Most High God—we have natural opponents who want to do the same when it comes to the democratic process, particularly in America. They want to deceive, divide and ultimately dismantle democracy as we’ve known it in this nation.
America was founded on biblical principles that apply to all aspects of life. The very foundation of our democratic republic was forged in the bedrock of truth found in God’s Word, which is where we find the 8 Pivotal Issues of the 2024 Election. The challenge for us as 21st-century Christian Americans is to understand those issues, then act—vote—accordingly.
At the Heart of the Matter
To understand the truth of the political issues before us and the gravity of choices we face, we must know the heart and mind of God. Yet it was God who said: “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts…. and my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:8-9).
Still, God has readily and gladly made His will and ways known to us (Deuteronomy 5:32-33; Psalm 25:4), especially since the days that Jesus walked this earth (Romans 12:2). He is just as interested in the forming of a nation and the governing of a people as He is His kingdom. So don’t be deceived by the lies and trickery of the devil who wants to see this country come to ruin. These end times we live in are all the more reason we need to be aware of the 8 Pivotal Issues of the 2024 Election:
1. God and His Word are supreme
“Godliness [righteousness] makes a nation great.” –Proverbs 14:34 How do we determine what is godly or righteous? Thankfully, God guides us by providing very clear examples in His Word of what He considers a priority—and should be a priority to us. In fact, in the opening pages of the Old and New Testaments we read:
“In the beginning God…” (Genesis 1:1).
“In the beginning the Word already existed” (John 1:1).
In short, God is the beginning—the starting point—of everything, including when we step into a voting booth and consider political issues and candidates.
2. God is the author of human life, which is to be protected.
“Then God said, ‘Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us….’” –Genesis 1:26
Protection of life—particularly innocent life—is a priority to God and is a first priority of government (Genesis 9:6). And when matters such as advances in technology seem to bring confusion or doubt into the equation of “life” (for the born and unborn), make no mistake: God stands by His Word, and so should we.
The moral laws of Scripture and the natural laws of the universe include our natural rights to worship God, self-defense, liberty, private property and individualism (Job 38:33). And it is the role of government to protect those God-given rights.
3. God intended for us to steward His creation.
“The LORD God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it” (Genesis 2:15).
Even if we didn’t ask for it, each of us as a citizen of this earth has responsibilities (Matthew 25; Luke 19). Furthermore, we are accountable for all that God has given us. Which also means that we have a God-given duty to take responsibility and participate in the governing process that is a lifelong process, with one aspect of it being the election process (Exodus 23:29-30; Deuteronomy 7:2).
4. God created only two human genders.
“So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them” (Genesis 1:27).
God only created two genders, man and female. Yet, it has become common to reject natural law—the laws of nature and of nature’s Creator—where gender is concerned. But even in the Apostle Paul’s day, he warned the Church of people who would refuse to accept the truth, and end up greatly deceived, who would ultimately be condemned “for enjoying evil rather than believing the truth” (2 Thessalonians 2:10-12).
5. God is the author of traditional marriage.
“Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man…. This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one” (Genesis 2:22, 24).
Marital and sexual union is confined to a man and woman committed to a lifelong relationship (Hebrews 13:4; 1 Corinthians 6:18-20). God intends to give us abundant life—including in marriage—while the thief (Satan) intends to steal, kill and destroy that life, which is what sexual sin and perversion do (Romans 1:18, 26-27).
6. God is the author of the traditional family.
“Now Adam had sexual relations with his wife, Eve, and she became pregnant. When she gave birth to Cain, she said, ‘With the LORD’s help, I have produced a man!’ Later she gave birth to his brother and named him Abel” (Genesis 4:1-2).
A husband and wife, along with the blessing of their children, are, by God’s design, a family. And according to laws of nature and those of nature’s Creator, parents have rights and responsibilities when it comes to their offspring (Ephesians 6:1, 4; Exodus 20:12). The American government has long recognized those fundamental parental rights, particularly when it comes to the direct education and upbringing of their children.
7. God is the author of civil government.
“If anyone takes a human life, that person’s life will also be taken by human hands” (Genesis 9:6).
Government exists to protect God-given, inalienable rights. It is the responsibility of government to punish the wicked and reward the righteous. Doing so creates a civilization that allows us to live in peace with all people.
So it was God who created the institution of government. He gave Moses laws for the people of Israel, to help them run their nation. Therefore, government is not secular. Furthermore, our American government is a democratic republic, not a democracy, meaning that we get to choose our leaders at all levels (Exodus 18:21-23). And it is our responsibility to choose wisely (Proverbs 29:2).
8. God intended for Israel to receive preferential treatment.
“I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you” (Genesis 12:3).
God is a God of covenant—creating and honoring them, as with Abraham. Our salvation through Christ is a result of God’s blood covenant with Jesus, making us the ones who have been “grafted” into THE BLESSING of Abraham (Romans 11:17-18).
Therefore, God is ever mindful, ever watching how the nations have treated His covenant people, Israel, throughout time. That’s why it is imperative the United States of America maintain a relationship of “blessing” with the nation of Israel.
As You Go To Vote…
When God gave Moses the 10 Commandments, He took hundreds of moral and civil laws that He had handed down to Israel and reduced them to the Top 10 (Exodus 20, 23). He did this because He recognized that not all issues are equal; many are important, but not all are weighty enough to make the Top 10.
In effect, God helped Israel (and us) identify the “righteous” issues we especially need to be concerned with (Proverbs 14:34)—issues that can make a nation great. He helped us recognize, as we go to vote, that it’s about comparison of platforms and policies, not personalities. It’s about these 8 Pivotal Issues of the 2024 Election.
