2025 National Day of Prayer: 10 Strategic Prayers for America

As the 2025 National Day of Prayer approaches, you can pray these 10 Strategic Prayers for America to invite God to intervene in our nation.

How did the National Day of Prayer begin? On April 17, 1952, a bill was passed that said, “The President shall set aside and proclaim a suitable day each year, other than a Sunday, as a National Day of Prayer, on which the people of the United States may turn to God in prayer and meditation at churches, in groups and as individuals.”

This year as you gather with others to pray, you can pour out your heart to God. The 2025 National Day of Prayer theme is “Pour out to the God of hope and be filled,” based on Romans 15:13: “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (NKJV).

You can be filled with joy and peace in believing God as you pray these 10 Strategic Prayers for America on the 2025 National Day of Prayer.

1. Pray for righteousness to reign in America.

“Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.” –2 Chronicles 7:14

God’s promise to King Solomon and all of Israel was a prescription, a promise and a prayer for a healthy nation that still holds to this day. You can pray this scripture as a prayer for righteousness to reign in America.

2. Pray that truth and light are revealed in America.

“Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne. Unfailing love and truth walk before you as attendants. Happy are those who hear the joyful call to worship, for they will walk in the light of your presence, LORD.” –Psalm 89:14-15

Make this verse your prayer of declaration, personalizing it for America like this: “Righteousness and justice are the foundation of America. Unfailing love and truth walk before her as attendants. Happy are her people who hear the joyful call to worship, for they will walk in the light of Your presence, Lord.” You can pray this way for truth and light to be revealed in America.

3. Pray for America’s children to awaken to God.

“I will teach all your children, and they will enjoy great peace.” –Isaiah 54:13

One way to pray for America’s children to awaken to God is to pray for those who have influence in their lives like parents, guardians, foster parents, day care workers, teachers, coaches and Sunday school teachers. You can pray that these “influencers” would instill godly values in them and that these “children shall be disciples [taught by the Lord and obedient to His will]” (Isaiah 54:13, AMPC).

4. Pray for America’s youth to awaken to God.

“‘In the last days,’ God says, ‘I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions….’” –Acts 2:17

Pray that America’s youth are a “the generation who seek God’s face” (Psalm 24:6, NKJV), that they are not only born again of the Spirit, but that they are also baptized in God’s Spirit, being sensitive to and functioning in the gifts of the Spirit (Acts 2:17-18). In this way, you are praying for America’s youth to awaken to God.

5. Pray for America’s young adults to awaken to God.

“This is all the more urgent, for you know how late it is; time is running out. Wake up, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.” –Romans 13:11

Pray for America’s young adults who are starting careers, going to college, settling down, having children—all while still trying to figure out life. Pray for them to awaken to God. With all their new responsibilities and pressures, pray they are mindful that “time is running out and…it is a strategic hour in human history. It is time for us to wake up!”(Romans 13:11, AMPC).

6. Pray for the preservation of life in America.

“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.”—Psalm 139:13

God made each person and all their delicate, inner parts, while they were still in their mother’s womb. Among all the things that God hates, He absolutely detests the shedding of innocent blood (Proverbs 6:16-17)—because life is in the blood. The shedding of innocent blood cries out to Him (Genesis 4:10). So pray for the preservation of life in America.

7. Pray for the end of corruption in America.

“The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.” –John 1:4-5

Pray for light to shine in dark places and for the end of corruption in America. You can use the following scriptures to declare an end to corruption in every area of our nation: in our churches (2 Peter 2:17-21), in our commerce (Deuteronomy 25:13-16), and in our government (Ecclesiastes 5:8-9).

8. Pray for America’s spiritual leaders.

“The king’s heart is like a stream of water directed by the LORD; he guides it wherever he pleases.” –Proverbs 21:1

You can pray for America’s spiritual leaders by using the Apostle Paul’s prayer request: “And pray for me, too. Ask God to give me the right words…. I am in chains now, still preaching this message as God’s ambassador. So pray that I will keep on speaking boldly for him, as I should” (Ephesians 6:19-20). Intercede on behalf of the “gifts” God has given us—the apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers (Ephesians 4:11-13).

9. Pray for America’s political leaders.

“Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God. So anyone who rebels against authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and they will be punished.” –Romans 13:1-2

Pray for America’s political leaders from an attitude of submission, obedience, honor and respect for all governing authorities—because it is right, and they are “servants” of God, put in place for your good (Romans 13:1-7; 1 Peter 2:13-17; Titus 3:1).

10. Pray protection over America and plead the blood of Jesus over her.

“In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.” –Colossians 2:15

We overcome all spiritual and natural assaults against our nation by “the blood of the Lamb and by the word of [our] testimony” (Revelation 12:11, NKJV). Therefore, take the powerful Word of God (like Psalm 91) and make it your testimony, your declaration of America’s victory over the enemy. Pray protection over America and plead the blood of Jesus over her daily.

Let’s join together in faith on this 2025 National Day of Prayer—and pray these 10 Strategic Prayers for America! As each one of us in this nation gathers together to pour out our hearts to God, we can be confident that He will fill us to overflowing with hope for America.
