Will God Really Protect Me? 8 Promises of Protection You Can Count On

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

2020 was a year of fear. At least that’s what the devil attempted to make it.

But God NEVER intended for you to live that way. He has promised you protection again and again, and for every situation.

God is not someone who is hard to get hold of when you are in trouble. He is not someone who can’t hear you call out His Name when you have a need. In fact, He is waiting for those who will take His promises seriously, so He can rush to the aid of those who call on Him.

So don’t ever feel that you are alone and forgotten. The Lord knows right where you are. Trust Him, turn to Him, give Him an opportunity to prove His love for you in time of trouble—He’ll shake heaven and hell to deliver you, and bring you to a place of safety.

If you’ve been asking yourself, Will God really protect me? then it’s time to focus on the truth and not the lies. It’s time to grab hold of these 8 promises of protection you can count on today and every day—no matter how bad circumstances may seem.

Promise #1: You Have Protection From Harm

Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.”—Psalm 91:3-4, New International Version

Your well-being is God’s No. 1 concern. Did you know that?

It’s true. He didn’t just place you here on earth and hope for the best. No! He set you up big time with some serious resources and protections—fortresses, hiding places, authority, angels and most importantly—His backing. Wow. Makes you wonder why you ever feared anything at all, doesn’t it?

Even so, when troubles come, we sometimes need reminders of His goodness, mercy, love and power. That’s what we’re here for—to help you get back into that place where you feel secure, safe and protected in Him, so you can live happy and carefree.

Is that really possible? you might ask. Yep. And it’s also a requirement if we’re going to be real about it. Being carefree is being stress-free and fear-free. And fear-free is the only way to live by faith, which is the only way to please God. The best part? He’s right here ready and willing to fulfill His promises of protection for you.

Promise #2: You Will Live Long

“With long life I will satisfy him…”—Psalm 91:16, New King James Version

Those who live in His shelter (who put their full faith in Him and fellowship with Him) are promised long life. That’s a pretty big promise. People of the world expect to go at any time—in an accident or from an illness. Here’s why we need to be different.

There are two groups of people on the earth—the people of God and the people who still live in the devil’s kingdom of darkness. One can live in security and the other in constant peril. The difference is that one group has a covenant with God, and the other doesn’t.

If God has promised you long life (when you live in obedience to His Word), why would you ever fear an illness, car accident, poverty or anything else?

Long life is a promise to you, but just like anything else God has promised, you have to stand for it in faith.

Promise #3: He Will Respond to His Name

“The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe.” –Proverbs 18:10

The Name of Jesus is so vast in its power that it triumphs over any problem, any trial and any situation. Demons flee from it, disease cannot remain in the face of it, lack and fear dissipate before it, and every darkness is instantly shattered by it. Even death itself cannot contend with it.

The power and authority of the Name of Jesus rightfully belongs to you as a born-again Christian, and He expects you to use it! (Mark 16:15, 17-18)

Smith Wigglesworth once said, “There is power to overcome everything in the world through the Name of Jesus.” That means you can put the Name of Jesus to work in every area of your life—big or small—and it will work. That’s a promise.

Promise #4: He Will Give You Victory

“Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph.”—2 Corinthians 2:14

We are promised the victory every time. Now, take note, we are not promised a trouble-free life, but we are promised to come out on top every time. Sometimes it isn’t in the timing we want or in the way we’d like, but it always happens God’s way, which is always the best way!

Just like every other promise, we have to be walking in obedience to His Word—loving others, forgiving, staying out of strife, staying out of fear and in faith, and obeying all His commandments. When we do, we’re promised the victory ALWAYS.

That’s why Proverbs 24:16 says, “The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again. But one disaster is enough to overthrow the wicked” (New Living Translation). You don’t have to fear anything, because no matter what comes your way, you have a promise that you’ll come out on top.

Promise #5: He Will Guide You Safely

“Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you.”—Proverbs 4:6, NIV

Time after time, people get delivered out of seemingly impossible situations with one word from God. God’s wisdom does make a difference, and He isn’t keeping it hidden from us (see Proverbs 1:20).

Wisdom will give us answers about how to stay protected and how to obtain provision. Moreover, the wisdom of God will warn us of anything that will lead to danger.

How do we get the wisdom of God that will guide us safely through any situation? By spending time in His Word. God’s wisdom and guidance by His Word and His Spirit have been given to help us avoid the calamity and destruction that wait to come upon us like a whirlwind (see Proverbs 1:25-27).

So make a lifestyle of thinking daily about the leading of God. The devil isn’t smart enough or subtle enough to sneak up and bring calamity or death on the believer who has learned to walk in God’s Word and hear His voice.

Promise #6: Your Words Will Have Power

“The speech of the upright rescues them.”—Proverbs 12:6, NIV

As believers, we have security everywhere we go because God is looking after us. He is our shield, our fortress, our refuge. Absolute safety belongs to the one who says of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress.”

When you stay in God’s Word consistently, His words will become the first things that come to your mind in any situation, so you can speak them out in faith. His promises will rise up within you in times of trouble and be the shield, fortress or refuge you need.

Your words have power to bind demons, loose protection, stop calamity, heal the sick, halt evil in its tracks and so much more. Learn to use the authority you’ve been given by speaking words of life over yourself every day. Plead the blood of Jesus, declare Scripture over your life and your family. God promises that your words will bring results—one way or the other. So choose wisely!

Promise #7: You Will Sleep Peacefully

“When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.”—Proverbs 3:24, NIV

God has even provided protection for your sleep. And aren’t we so grateful?

Sleep is restorative to our bodies and minds, which is why the devil so often tries to steal it from us. When we’re tired, we struggle more spiritually and aren’t operating at 100%.

You don’t have to tolerate disrupted sleep for ANY reason. You have a promise of sweet sleep from God Himself.

Promise #8: He Will Always Give You a Way Out

“God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear…he will also provide a way out.”—1 Corinthians 10:13, NIV

God has promised to always give you a way out of any temptation, so even when you put yourself in harm’s way, He has promised to help you! That is the goodness of God in full force.

He also has promised us a way out—or a way of escape—from trials and life-threatening situations (see Psalm 91). Romans 10:13 says, “Everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved.”[HM2]  That doesn’t just apply to salvation. There are so many testimonies of people who were in life-threatening, impossible-to-escape-from situations who ended up completely unharmed and have no explanation for how they ended up safe—except one: They called on the Name of the Lord.

Firefighters trapped in a burning home with no way out called on the Name of the Lord and suddenly were outside the home. Christians in an inflamed airplane with no way out called on the Name of the Lord and were suddenly outside on the wing, unharmed and safe. There are testimonies of people holding a gun to believers and those people refusing to fear, standing in faith, were delivered supernaturally.

You are promised protection—every day in every way. You are not the part-time focus of God’s attention. You are His delight and the full-time object of His affection. From beginning to end, He tells you in His Word how much He loves you by demonstrating how protective He is of His people. Will God really protect you? We hope by now you’ll answer with a resounding, “Yes!”
