Single Mom Leaves the Federal Welfare System by Applying Biblical Truth

Food stamps, day care vouchers and government insurance were a way of life for Ayanna Evans for 18 years. However, as a single mom of four, she learned biblical truth that set her free from bondage to the government’s welfare system.

In 2018, Evans listened to Kenneth Copeland and Bill Winston teach about the Babylonian system. New Testament writers refer to it as “the world,” which means an organized system that is contrary to God’s way of doing things.

After all, God’s way is always full of wisdom and contains the answers you need.

Proverbs 13:20 says, “Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm” (NIV).

A life-altering revelation for Evans was how she was bound by a system that the Lord didn’t lead. “You can’t live by the Babylonian system, the world’s way of doing things, because you can’t change the system that you are dependent on,” she explained.

Ayanna didn’t want to have to tell people that she was dependent on any federal or state system to survive. In her heart, it was essential that her kids didn’t wonder where the next meal was coming from just because she was stuck in a cycle. And that’s when she decided that she no longer wanted to be reliant on the world’s system.

She was hungry for biblical truth that could set her free. Around that time, she heard Kenneth Copeland talk about an upcoming event he was hosting— the Southwest Believers’ Convention (SWBC) in Fort Worth, Texas.

That year, Evans watched SWBC online, giving each session her full attention. “All day, every day, I watched it as if I were there in the building. And it was powerful.”

Evans determined in her heart to travel to Fort Worth the following year to attend the convention in person. She didn’t know how she could afford to go, but she believed it could happen by faith.

To date, Evans has attended the annual event several times—paid in full.

As she learned from the Word of God about the Lord being her provider, faith continued to build in her heart. When the time came to reapply for welfare, she threw the application in the trash.

She chose to start trusting the Lord as her provider. She began speaking to her bills every month. She recalled in Genesis 1:26 that we have authority in this world, so “[I] told them jokers they were paid!” We exercise that authority by using our words to speak to situations. Jesus illustrates this biblical truth in Mark 11:12-14, 20-25.

Evans believes she began to see a breakthrough in her life when she stopped depending on welfare. “I couldn’t hear from the Lord while I was putting my trust in the system of Babylon,” she said.

“You can’t hear from Him if you’re dependent on two systems. The Lord says you can’t be lukewarm. You can’t have faith and fear at the same time. That doesn’t even make sense. That’s an oxymoron.”

Now that Evans is no longer dependent on the government and is applying biblical truth to her circumstances, she understands the power she has as a believer in Christ.

Ayanna believes that coming off welfare and learning how to build her faith through listening to teaching about biblical truth made all the difference. She now trusts the Lord to be her provider. She is grateful for men and women who have taken their personal time to teach the Word of God, because she understands they could be doing something else. “They thought of us when they decided to sit down and get this Word out so that we can get what it is the Lord wants us to get,” Evans concluded.
