It started with a phone call. Longtime Kenneth Copeland Ministries Partner Camille Solberg had been living in Wisconsin for several years, serving as managing editor of a small bilingual Christian newspaper.
With a passion for outreach, she was looking for ways to get the message of the gospel out. She picked up the phone and called the White House, sharing that she was the editor of a small Christian newspaper and that she desired to cover events happening in the nation’s capital that would be of interest to the readers of her local publication. For a period of eight years, during the administration of George W. Bush, she was able to go back and forth from Wisconsin to Washington, D.C., covering stories.
An open door
Fast-forward a few years and one of the congressmen from her district in Wisconsin became the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) administrator under the Trump administration. He knew Solberg well, so she saw an open door and took a step through it; she texted him to see if he knew of job opportunities. That started her journey through the confirmation process to become a staff member at USAID, which meant relocating to Washington, D.C. Eventually, she was transferred from USAID to the “Faith Office” at the White House, with Paula White.
Through the back door
Said Solberg, “I wish I could tell you I planned it and that it was all me…but it really wasn’t. Even getting into the White House was [because of] God.” She went on to state that she almost felt as if she had gotten into the White House from the kitchen; like coming through the back door. “I feel like God snuck me right in,” she said with a smile.
Solberg knows there’s always a purpose, always a plan. “Nothing is happenstance,” she stated. “You don’t have to have a history in ‘whatever’ or have a history of being in politics. God is going to use you.”
According to her, it doesn’t matter who you are. It’s your responsibility to become part of your community. It could be a small village board, or a parent-teacher association leader. She simply admonishes you to be part of your community so that you can make a difference in your world. “God has a destiny for each one of us. You [must] be willing and obedient to follow the call.”
A door for the gospel
Solberg got connected with KCM in the mid-2000s. She realized it was imperative to have the Word-based teaching offered by the ministry to survive in the arena of politics. She recognized that what she was learning and obtaining was not just for her and her children, but it was also for those elected officials to whom she was ministering.
Throughout her time in Washington, D.C., she used journalism as a tool to minister to the people she encountered. She was using her personal resources, such as giving away her personal devotionals, and she was running out of items to give.
She told somebody at KCM that she was running out of things to give; that she had no tracts or anything to give the politicians as she ministered to them. KCM invested in her and gave her copies of the From Faith to Faith daily devotional book that she has since given to many politicians.
Said Solberg, “When you have a track record of being somebody who’s trustworthy, honest and kind, who wants the best for others, then people pick up on that. Especially in politics, where there is so much evilness within those circles.”
It’s been an interesting journey for Solberg, in which she has been able to integrate the faith component with the political component. She’s simply stepped through one open door after another.
