It has been 24 years since the 9/11 attacks. Each of us remembers where we were when the news came. Those images remain etched in our hearts—the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers in New York, the Pentagon, and Flight 93 in a quiet Pennsylvania field.
Nearly 3,000 precious lives were lost that day, including 441 first responders. It was a moment of national heartbreak. Yet even in the rubble, God’s faithfulness was revealed.
We Remember God’s Faithfulness on 9/11
Amid the turmoil on 9/11, rescue efforts and regional cleanup, hope emerged from the rubble when workers uncovered a steel cross standing upright at ground zero. Girders and structural beams above and alongside this corner bearing were torn away when the Twin Towers fell, leaving a symbol of faithfulness, loyalty and love rising above the ruination below.
The cross in the ashes became a symbol of hope for weary rescuers and grieving families. Many gathered to pray there, reminded that God had not abandoned His people. To this day, it remains a note of the Lord’s faithfulness inside the 9/11 memorial.
Fear not [there is nothing to fear], for I am with you; do not look around you in terror and be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen and harden you to difficulties, yes, I will help you; yes, I will hold you up and retain you with My [victorious] right hand of rightness and justice. (Isaiah 41:10, AMPC)
God at Work In Our Nation
In the years since, America has rebuilt—not only in structures, but in spirit. The Freedom Tower now rises over New York City as a declaration that darkness could not prevail. Memorials across New York, Virginia and Pennsylvania stand as sacred places of reflection and resolve.
Sept. 11 was a wake-up call for Christians to do exactly as 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NKJV) says:
“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
Today, we are in the midst of great change and a revival. That’s all because of God’s covenant with America. From the very beginning, this nation was dedicated to Almighty God. The early settlers prayed and covenanted that America would be a land that honored the Lord and spread the gospel to the world. That covenant still stands today because God does not forget His covenant (Psalm 89:34).
After 9/11, We Still Remember To Serve
Sept. 11 is now marked as a National Day of Service. Across the nation, millions give their time to feed the hungry, support first responders, and care for those in need. It is one way America shows resilience—and one way believers demonstrate the love of Christ.
The opportunities to give back on 9/11 are boundless in your city. Here are some ways you can pray, serve and shine His light:
Prayer and Remembrance
- Observe moments of silence held at various times on 9/11 to honor victims, according to the 9/11 Memorial
- Pray for survivors and families, that God would comfort them and heal every wound
- Pray for peace and reconciliation, that violence and terrorism would give way to peace and understanding
- Pray for government and community leaders to walk in God’s wisdom and justice.
Service and Outreach
- Volunteer locally: serve at shelters or food banks, or clean up public spaces.
- Participate in meal packing events organized by charities like 9/11 Day
- Support first responders and their families: Prepare meals, write letters or organize donation drives
- Donate to 9/11 charities that bless families and survivors
- Reach out personally to someone who lost a loved one: Offer a listening ear, acknowledge their loss, and express your care and support, notes tealashes.com
- Participate in remembrance activities: Attend memorial ceremonies, visit a 9/11 memorial, or participate in events like stair climbs or runs that honor the fallen.
Learn and Listen
- Revisit the history of 9/11: Take time to learn more about the attacks, their impact, and the stories of courage and resilience that emerged.
- Teach children not only what happened, but also how God redeems pain with hope
- Keep praying daily for first responders who continue to put their lives on the line.
America’s Best Days Are Ahead
On this 24th remembrance of 9/11, may we never forget what happened, but may we also never forget God’s faithfulness. As we remember, let’s also rise up in faith. Let’s be the hands and feet of Jesus—praying, serving and declaring hope that will never be shaken. Let’s thank God for His protection, His healing and His covenant promise with America.
The cross still stands. Our nation still stands. And by faith, we declare: Because of God’s covenant, America’s best days are yet to come.
A Declaration of Faith for America
By faith, declare:
- America is a covenant nation, dedicated to Almighty God from its foundation
- The blood of Jesus covers this land, and His mercy endures forever (Psalm 136:1)
- God will not break His covenant, nor alter the words that have gone forth from His mouth (Psalm 89:34)
- Revival is sweeping across our land, bringing healing, restoration and righteousness (Habakkuk 2:14)
- Our leaders walk in godly wisdom, and our people live in peace (1 Timothy 2:1-2).
I set my faith today that the covenant God made with this nation still stands. No weapon formed against America shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). By His Word, America’s greatest days are not behind us—they are before us.
Prayer for America
Heavenly Father, we come before You with gratitude for Your covenant mercy over the United States of America. We remember those who died on 9/11, and we honor their memory by declaring that our nation will not be shaken. Lord, You are our refuge and strength, and You have not forgotten the covenant made when this land was dedicated to You. We thank You for pouring out revival from coast to coast. Strengthen families, protect first responders, and guide our leaders in righteousness. We plead the blood of Jesus over America and declare that Your mercy triumphs over judgment. Thank You that Jesus is Lord over this nation—yesterday, today and forever. In His mighty Name we pray. Amen.
