Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Are you facing a pressing matter that needs an answer from God stat? Hearing from God this Christmas will be your greatest gift!

Christmas is filled with wonderful sights and smells. Brightly colored lights draped on houses, Christmas trees lit up in department store displays, and the smell of sugar cookies and fudge fill the air. Then, there are the sounds of Christmas—the melody of Christmas carols playing on the radio, jingle bells ringing outside storefronts, and children giggling at the sight of crisply wrapped gifts under the tree. One sound that rises above it all is the sound of hearing from God this Christmas—especially when you need to hear from Him on a pressing matter in your heart.

Whenever you have a need, a trial or an unanswered question, God has the answer. Maybe you’ve been praying and seeking, but still don’t have a peace about what you should do or how to respond to a certain situation. You need an answer stat! So, how can you speed up the process?

Sometimes, when we feel backed up against a wall, it can be more challenging to hear His voice over the noise of our own thoughts and feelings. We may not hear anything at all, or we may wonder if we are hearing our own thoughts or His.

Follow these four steps to help you hear from God this Christmas, and feel confident in knowing the word of the Lord for you.

  1. Clear away the flesh. Thoughts, plans, remedies and strategies racing through your mind can muddy the spiritual waters when it comes to hearing from God. Make it a point to be still and simply listen for the Lord. It takes practice! But it can be accomplished.
  2. Expect to hear from God. Even if you don’t feel like God speaks to you—He does. In fact, He’s speaking to you right now. However, if you aren’t expecting to hear from Him, you haven’t even turned on the receiver! Remember—He isn’t going to scream, yell and demand that you pay attention. He is always speaking to you, but He speaks in “a still small voice” (1 Kings 19:12,NKJV). So, to hear Him, you have to tune in and listen expectantly.
  3. Spend time with God. God communicates from His Spirit to your spirit, and then, your spirit communicates what you hear to your mind. That is what we call an inward witness. It is very similar to a thought or a prompting. It’s very subtle and requires a closeness with God and regular practice to hear it more quickly and clearly. That’s why the more time you spend with the Lord and the more you practice tuning in to His voice, the more it will become a voice that “thunders in marvelous ways” (Job 37:5, NIV).
  4. Line it up with His Word.God isn’t going to tell you to do anything that is against His Word. So, if you’re having marriage trouble, He isn’t going to tell you to get a divorce. If you have a financial need, He isn’t going to tell you to rack up debt.

This Christmas, even in the midst of the hustle and bustle, family meals, shopping, vacations and gift giving—God is speaking to you.He wants to bring peace to every area of your life. He wants to give you the supernatural solutionto your greatest need and desire right now. It will be the best Christmas gift you receive this year!
