3 Keys To Stop Living Paycheck to Paycheck

Your ability to have a better financial future begins with renewing your mind and putting into practice these 3 Keys To Stop Living Paycheck to Paycheck.

Do you feel anxious when you go to the mailbox or open an email? Do you struggle to decide which bills to pay and which bills to delay? Can you barely afford your mortgage or rent? Are you unable to give a savings account a second thought?

Be encouraged that as a child of God, God’s will is that you thrive and prosper. The good news is that God wants you to have more than enough! He wants you to have a savings account—with money in it! Such security and prosperity are not a pipe dream; they are attainable, even if your circumstances seem impossible, even if you got yourself in that place.

Your ability to have a better financial future begins with renewing your mind—with changing how you see God, how you see yourself, and how you manage money. “Let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think” (Romans 12:2). Start with these 3 Keys To Stop Living Paycheck to Paycheck, and begin living with more money than month.

1. Change How You See God To Stop Living Paycheck to Paycheck

“And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.” –Philippians 4:19

The first key to stop living paycheck to paycheck is to change how you see God. Do you see Him as the One who provides well for you? Do you see Him as meeting your needs?

How you see God could be influenced by the type of father, or provider, you had as a child. Maybe you grew up in a household where there wasn’t someone who was a good provider for you. Maybe you find it difficult to believe that God could be a good provider. How do you know that God will take care of you? You have to look at what the Word of God says to find out the truth.

The Word says that God is a good provider (Psalm 145:9). He wants to take care of you and supply all your needs, but He needs you to trust Him and have faith in His ability to provide for you.

God is your abundance. He sent Jesus and by believing on Him, you can partake of the abundance that He gives. John 10:10 says, “The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows)” (AMPC). God wants every area of your life to be abundant, full and overflowing, and that includes your finances.

God can help you become debt free. Romans 13:8 says, “Owe nothing to anyone—except for your obligation to love one another.” God wants to guide and lead you to become debt free. It is possible for God to supply you with the money you need to purchase what you need, or to have what you need given to you by someone else.

When you see God as your provider, your abundance, and helping you become debt free, you are changing how you see God and are able to receive more from Him.

2.Change How You See Yourself To Stop Living Paycheck to Paycheck

“That the sharing of your faith may become effective by the acknowledgment of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.” –Philemon 6 (NKJV)

The second key to stop living paycheck to paycheck is to change how you see yourself. Do you see yourself living in abundance?

Sometimes it’s easier to accept God’s promise of abundance as His will for others but not necessarily for you. Yet, the Word tells you that God is no respecter of persons, meaning He wants it for you just as much as He wants it for others. In Acts 10:34, Peter said, “I see very clearly that God shows no favoritism.” All believers have equal access to God’s favor.

If you think you don’t deserve God’s goodness in your life, it’s time to renew your mind to the truth of who you are in Him, and why you are worthy of His blessing and all that it contains. To see yourself the way God does, go to His Word and find the verses that tell you who you are in Christ Jesus. To help you get started, here are 15 Verses for Finding Your Identity In Christ. As you meditate on these verses, personalize them and speak them over yourself. This will change how you see yourself, and you’ll discover all that God has provided for you in Christ Jesus!

3. Change How You Manage Money To Stop Living Paycheck to Paycheck

“But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.” –James 1:22

The final key to stop living paycheck to paycheck is to change how you manage money. God has great money-management skills written clearly in His Word. If you will follow them, they will help you live in abundance—no longer living paycheck to paycheck.

  1. First, He tells you to put Him first by tithing. The tithe is the first 10% of your income. In Malachi 3:10, God says to “bring all the tithes into the storehouse.” The obedience of tithing brings God into your finances and opens the door for Him to do more with the 90% you have remaining than your budgeting skills ever could.
  2. Pay your expenses. Being able to pay your bills requires planning ahead. To do this, you’ll need to create a budget. For a variety of financial tools and resources, including how to create a budget, click HERE.
  3. Give offerings. Proverbs 11:25 says, “The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.” When you see a good work, give to it. When you see someone in need, do your best to meet their need (Proverbs 19:17).
  4. Build up a storehouse, which is your savings. Plan for your future and invest wisely with the leading of the Holy Spirit. In the parable of the talents, it was the servants who multiplied their money whom the master called “good and faithful servants” (Matthew 25:14-30).
