Growing up in a household ravaged with addiction, David Luna found a book from Kenneth Copeland Ministries that changed his life; now, he’s helping other teens.
David Luna, a Partner with Kenneth Copeland Ministries, grew up in a household with a father that was addicted to drugs and an alcoholic mother. “I grew up in the streets. Poor. In special education classes, I didn’t know how to read or write,” shares Luna.
At the age of 25 he married his wife, eventually becoming born again, receiving Jesus as his Lord and Savior. “I still remember like it was yesterday,” says Luna. The church he attended at that time had a storage room; one day, he noticed a box that was sealed. “I opened it up and there was a book called From Faith to Faith by Kenneth and Gloria Copeland. I remember grabbing that and reading it.” The daily devotional helped him develop in his faith. “I remember just reading that book and it changed my life. I still read it today because it has changed my life so much,” recalls Luna.

Luna began to see himself as someone who was unique. Because of the transformation Luna experienced in his life, he wrote a 10-month curriculum.
This curriculum, based on the biblical teachings he learned through studying the From Faith to Faith daily devotional, is now going into public schools, helping struggling students just like he once was. “We’re changing the lives of students,” says Luna. “I’m talking about hundreds of students lives are being changed.”
A Different Perspective
One of the schools where he has been able to teach this curriculum is a school for troubled teens. “When they get into trouble, this is the school that they send them to.” When Luna first arrived at this alternative school, the students were required to dress in green sweatsuits. “When they walked down the halls, they had to keep their hands behind their backs. And the Lord told me, ‘They don’t [realize], but they’re preparing them for jail.’” Luna talked to the principal, asking if there was a way this practice could change.
The principal agreed: now every student wears a collared polo shirt. The program used to be called SURGE, which stood for Student Under Restricted Guideline Environment. Now, it is called IMPACT.
Says Luna, “Right now, schools are trying to figure out what to do, and the only thing that can change [the environment] is God’s spirit, and faith. I’m literally able to take faith— what I’ve learned from Brother Copeland— into the schools to change it.” The principles Luna is teaching are life skills, but they’re also biblical, and it is changing the lives of these students. “I [teach] them to speak good things over themselves. I get them to speak good things over their families, and about their future and their purpose,” shares Luna. These are principles Luna learned from Brother Copeland.
As Proverbs 29:18 (KJV) says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.”
The students are being taught a different perspective about life: Their lives matter.

The Turnaround
When he started teaching his curriculum, the percentage of teens being repeat offenders, therefore being sent back to this alternative school, was around 87%. Within a year of the faith principles being taught, the kids were no longer getting into trouble because of hearing this message based on the From Faith to Faith daily devotions.
Says Luna, “I really believe that I don’t know where I would be today, had it not been for Brother Copeland. He’s my hero because he impacted me. I have literally been able to impact thousands of teenagers because of faith principles I’ve learned from him.
His legacy is being carried on by other students; even today, there are teenagers that know about Brother Copeland because he made a difference in my wife and I,” stated Luna.
