She Tried To Kill Herself…But God

Hella Malawar suffered from depression for many years, eventually leading to a suicide attempt. Then, she was introduced to Jesus, and her life was changed forever.

It started when she was 15 years old. The depression…the fear…the debilitating darkness.

She tried everything she could think of, hoping for relief. Therapy, hypnosis, light therapy— nothing helped. After about three or four years of trying, Hella Malawar no longer wanted to live, so she decided to end her life. Following a failed suicide attempt, her sister-in-law purposed in her heart that she would tell Hella about a Man named Jesus.

At first, Hella was opposed to this. “I didn’t like what I saw in the church; I don’t mean that in a disrespectful way. But I was looking for God and I didn’t find him,” shared Hella. “So, my sister-in-law came to me and told me about Jesus.”

Watch Hella and Obele tell their story here:

Hella listened to her sister-in-law talk for two hours, then she heard, “Hella, my God can heal you.”

This was different than anything Hella had heard before. She allowed her sister-in-law to pray for her, then Hella knew immediately that Jesus is alive, and that what her sister-in-law was sharing was real. “It was so life changing,” recalled Hella. “One moment I was an unbeliever, the next moment I really knew it.”

In that moment, Hella began a new life, as 2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us: “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”

Because she made the choice to be born again by accepting Jesus as her Savior, Hella finally felt hope. Her sister-in-law took her to church the following Sunday, and Hella has never left, “Because I thought, okay, this Jesus, I want to know him,” shared Hella.

Feed Your Spirit the Word of God

Hella stopped every type of therapy, instead going to Bible study every week; Healing School was the biggest help for her during this time. The Word of God has been her anchor in her journey to wholeness.

Hella and her husband, Obele, began reading and listening to every teaching resource from KCM that they could get their hands on: books, cassette tapes and CDs; resources regarding fear, healing and prosperity. “Everything was new to us,” said Obele. “So, we went into everything in a new way.”

The Malawars were living out the principle of Romans 12:2, which tells us to allow God to transform us into a new person by changing the way we think. As we seek Him by spending time fellowshipping with Him in His Word, we learn His will for our lives.

Resources to help you transform into who Jesus died for you to be:

Said Hella, “If you don’t feed yourself with the Word of God, it goes away from you. Like you eat in the natural, you must feed your Spirit because if you want to stay strong in the Spirit, you need the Word.”

Hella wants to see people experience the victory that Jesus gave to us when He died on the cross in our place. This is seen in Isaiah 53:5, which says that He was beaten so that we could be whole, and He was whipped so we could be healed.

Covenant Partners Stand Together

Through the teaching of KCM, the Malawars learned to be in covenant with one another. “That’s one of the reasons we decided we wanted to be a Partner with KCM, so we could stand together in faith and also share in the anointing that’s on the ministry,” said Obele. “We are very conscious that we have a partnership.”

Added Hella, “Partnership means a lot to us.”
