Airplanes Delivering Hope to the Isolated

Millions of people live in remote regions across the world. Mission Aviation Fellowship’s vision is to see isolated people changed by the love of Christ.

Help, hope and healing. Three things that all people need. However, for millions of isolated people across the world, lack of access to things such as health care, education, reliable food sources and clean water are an everyday occurrence. Because of the isolation, mostly due to geographic, social, religious, or political barriers, many have not even heard about the Name of Jesus or experienced the love of Christ.

Since 1945, Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) has been meeting the physical needs of isolated people, introducing them to the life-transforming love of Jesus in the process. This work of the gospel is made possible using compact airplanes that can fly into remote areas, quite literally living out Jesus’ words spoken to His disciples to “go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone” (Mark 16:15).

Said MAF President and CEO David Holsten, “The airplane is the tool. It’s a lifesaving tool.”

The Bible In Their Heart-language

Forty years. That’s how long it took to translate the Bible into the native heart-language of the people of Papua. Multiple generations of MAF pilots saw this work in progress; one missionary was even there to witness the process from beginning to completion. Talk about faithfulness to see the gospel carried to the ends of the earth!

MAF is committed to providing aviation service to hundreds of missionaries, churches and humanitarian agencies across the globe. Here is just a short list of those called to take God’s love to the remote regions of the earth who are significantly blessed by MAF aircraft:

  • Bible translators
  • Doctors
  • Aid workers
  • Evangelists
  • Pastors
  • And so many more!

They can do what they’re called to do because an MAF airplane is there to get them where they need to go. This is partnership having amplified impact. This is twice-sown seed.

“Everything we do is with another ministry. The partnership piece is what we’re all about,” said Dan Martin, MAF Director of Church Engagement. KCM is one of 285 ministries that MAF partners with, to preach the gospel to remote villages, providing humanitarian aid along the way.

According to Matthew 9:35, this is the holistic nature of Jesus’ ministry in action: “Jesus traveled through all the towns and villages of that area, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. And he healed every kind of disease and illness.”

Because Jesus cared about the whole person—spiritual, emotional, and physical, MAF keeps that as their vision with each flight they take.

It Takes a Village

Imagine this: a village so remote, it would take 30+ days by motorized canoe for a pastor to reach the people there. However, because of MAF, it takes only four hours to arrive. This is a beautiful example of how impactful partnership is when we pull our resources together.

You’ve probably heard the old saying, “It takes a village.” Well, it takes a village to reach a village. And that’s where your partnership comes into play! As you give to KCM, 10% of that money is immediately given to Partner ministries, such as MAF.

Currently, the MAF fleet of aircraft includes 39 airplanes. During each MAF aircraft’s lifespan (20-25 years), it is used to impact thousands of lives. Combined, they fly over a million miles each year, saving valuable travel time for those being transported. The time that’s saved can then be used for productive ministry work, further advancing the gospel. All the airplanes are provided by financial gifts given to MAF.

It takes a village to reach a village!

Partner, thank you for your giving that is impacting precious lives across the globe. You may not be able to physically travel to the remote regions of the earth, but due to the amplified impact of partnership, your giving is helping ministries like MAF fulfill the Great Commission given by Jesus in Matthew 28:18-20.
