Experience a brand-new identity with these 4 Truths About Who You Are In Christ!
Have you ever wanted to start over? Things weren’t going well, and you thought the solution would be to stop what you are doing and start over in a new direction. If that’s you, the good news is that you can start over!
It doesn’t matter what someone else has said about you or what you have said about yourself. You can start over by choosing to believe what God says about who you are in Christ. Who you are in Christ isn’t based on your education, experience or family. Who you are in Christ is based on what Jesus has accomplished for you.
2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” When you believe on Jesus, you come into the family of God and receive a brand-new identity. Read below to discover 4 Truths About Who You Are In Christ and begin to see yourself as a child of the Most High God!
Truth #1—You Are a Child of God.
“Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has become a child of God.” –1 John 5:1
The first truth about who you are in Christ is that you are a child of God. It’s so wonderful that God offers you the ability to be in His family and become a child of God! It’s a spiritual position for all eternity. He wants to be your heavenly Father.
In addition to your position with God, you also have a position with God’s Son, Jesus. Jesus told His disciples, “No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you” (John 15:15, NKJV). As a child of God, you are positioned as a friend of Jesus. As a friend, Jesus confides in you, telling you what the Father says; you can experience that level of friendship by reading the Word of God.
Paul also emphasizes that you are not a servant, but a son, an heir. “Therefore, you are no longer a slave (bond servant) but a son; and if a son, then [it follows that you are] an heir by the aid of God, through Christ” (Galatians 4:7, AMPC). A son, or an heir, has benefits a servant doesn’t have. You can draw on all the benefits of being in Christ.

Truth #2—You Are Accepted in the Beloved.
“To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.” –Ephesians 1:6 (KJV)
The second truth about who you are in Christ is that you are accepted in the Beloved. What does that mean? The Beloved is a Person, one loved by God. In this case, the Beloved is God’s only begotten Son, Jesus Christ!
You are accepted when you are born again into God’s family. God made you acceptable to come into His family with rights and privileges, including the right to come boldly to His throne. “So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most” (Hebrews 4:16).
Don’t listen to the lies that say you are not good enough, that your past keeps you from God, or even that God doesn’t love you. Lies, lies, lies! That’s why Jesus died on the cross. His blood was shed to cleanse you from all your sin—past, present and future. You have free access to come to God and ask for what you need. God sees you as accepted in the Beloved.
Truth #3—You Are Complete In Christ.
“So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.”—Colossians 2:10
The third truth about who you are in Christ is that you are complete in Him. You are so loved! God loves you, Jesus loves you, the Holy Spirit loves you; and as you experience that love, it makes you complete (Ephesians 3:19).
The Merriam-Webster Dictionary gives one definition of complete as “having all necessary parts, elements or steps.” That is, all the parts have come together, like when you complete a puzzle or a project of some kind. God has provided all the parts you need for victory in this life. As you read and study the Word, the eyes of your understanding will be enlightened, and you’ll see more about who you are in Christ (Ephesians 1:15-23).

If you discover anything in your life that seems incomplete, you can go to God to get what you need. Any ability, skill or wisdom missing in your life can be acquired by calling on God and asking Him for wisdom. You can call on the Lord for help in any and every situation. James said, “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking” (James 1:5). He doesn’t get mad at you for asking!
In Christ Jesus, you have access to the One who has all the answers. Call on Him, and He will answer you, showing you how to walk in complete wholeness in every area of your life.
Truth #4—You Are Protected by God
“This I declare about the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.” –Psalm 91:2-4
The fourth truth about who you are in Christ is that you are protected by God. All the pictures you can think of that represent protection—a mother holding a child, a father holding his child’s hand, a police officer stopping traffic—lead you to the image of the unwavering protection of God. God’s protection takes many forms, but all are operated by your faith in Him.
First, God alone is your refuge and place of safety. You can run to Him when you are in distress of any kind. Second, God will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. In fact, God will even reveal traps of the enemy ahead of time so you can be ready to hold up your shield of faith. Finally, God will shield you, hide you and shelter you with His wings. This can look many different ways, but sometimes when you think you’ve been overlooked for something, it is God’s protection working on your behalf, moving you toward His perfect will for your life.
No matter what the enemy brings against you, you can live in peace and safety, knowing God is your Protector because you are nestled snug in Christ Jesus.
These 4 Truths About Who You Are In Christ explain your brand-new identity as a believer. You may have been saved for years but never realized all the benefits of being in Christ. You don’t have to wrestle with any sense of unworthiness when you realize you are loved and accepted by God!
