3 Steps to Living a Fear-Free Life

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The Word commands us at least 110 times: Fear not! And throughout The Word there are many other references to fear in phrases such as “be thou not afraid.” That tells me, God is serious about us being rid of fear. And in these days, we need to be serious about it, too.

With that in mind, I want to share with you a Bible exercise that I’ve been doing for most of my nearly 48 years as a believer. It’s an exercise that has healed me, prospered me and delivered me…time after time. Now when I say exercise, it’s just as physical as it is spiritual. And by that I mean, get your Bible out because we have work to do.

This exercise is also physical because Psalm 107:2 tells us: “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so….” It doesn’t say, “Let the redeemed of the Lord think so.” It says, “say so!” So, let’s get vocal about this.

1. Start by reading Deuteronomy 28:66-67—OUT LOUD.
“Thy life shall hang in doubt before thee; and thou shalt fear day and night, and shalt have none assurance of thy life: In the morning thou shalt say, Would God it were even! and at even thou shalt say, Would God it were morning! for the fear of thine heart wherewith thou shalt fear, and for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see.”

You may recognize that this passage is part of the curse recorded by Moses in God’s covenant with Israel. The bottom line of that covenant was, if Israel obeyed God and kept His Word—the commandments He had written down—every blessing known to man, and then some, would come on them and overtake them. If Israel didn’t keep God’s Word, however, a long list of curses would plague them—even to the point of death. And in that list was fear.

2. Now read—OUT LOUD—Galatians 3:13: “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us….” As a born-again child of God, you have been redeemed from all the curses listed in Deuteronomy 28—including fear—by the Anointed Jesus.
So there’s your “say-it-out-loud” exercise.
3. And once you’ve done it a few times, allow the Holy Spirit to lead you in confessions based on The Word, such as:

Father, I thank You that I am redeemed from having the curse of fear in my heart because Christ—the Anointed One and His Anointing—has already redeemed me from the curse of the law of sin and death. I now live under the law of the Spirit of life in the Anointed One, Jesus. I am established in His righteousness, oppression is far from me, and terror does not come near me or my household. With You as my Helper, I do not fear what man can do to me.

That’s just an example, but it’s how you begin living a fear-free lifestyle.
